Anyone still interested in the WiFi Galaxy Tab?

This might interest you.

Same 1Ghz Hummingbird CPU, 512MB of RAM, Froyo. Pretty sure that its 7in scree, while capacitive multitouch, isn't in the same league as the Tab though. :p

Still, its 235 USD right now. Not a bad deal, but I'm not familiar with how well the Herotab company provides firmware updates.

Edit - here's the Slate Droid forums for it.

Well, it's not a brand name device, and brand name (Samsung in particular) sucks with updates.

So yeah, expect... nothing much.

Very true. I know Witstech actually releases firmware updates, but they usually break at least one thing for each thing they fix. :p

However, reading the SlateDroid forums for this, it looks like they have kernel source for it.

From my experience, if the device doesn't at least have a placeholder on XDA-Developers, you're better off looking for something else.

Having the source is one thing, but having developers to look at that source is another...

See the Slate Droid link I posted. There's several devs working on the C8. SD is a very good resource for Android tablets.

Well, I gotta give you that. Though in my mind, these things run through:
- It's a no-brand tablet (accessories will be hard to come by)
- It's using last year's hardware, even if top notch (when will support be dropped?)
- It's still running 2.2 (when will 3.0 be available? Or 2.2.1? Or 2.3?)
- Market access is hacked in (when will Google take this away?)
- How many apps will be built to support it, if at all?
- Only $100 away from a refurb iPad, or an eBay Galaxy Tab

It's in the same boat as the Galaxy Tab, only that Galaxy Tab gets more attention from established developers such as XDA-Developers and CyanogenMod. And even that didn't help the Galaxy Tab. I'm not sure how much SlateDroid developers will be able to do to this tablet, but right now, I'm seeing many drawbacks from owning it, and if you can't stretch it to the other premium tablets, $200 can still buy you some nice PC hardwares.

Not quite a Galaxy with its 800*480 resolution. That is the problem with the Dell Streak too. 800 horizontal pixels are simply not enough for many webpages without scaling. I remember my old clamshell iBook had the same low resolution and it was pretty much useless as a web browsing unit back in 2005. I couldn't imagine trying to seriously surf the web with that same low resolution today....
