- the home security system needs a line. I looked into cellular but it is more money monthly. And someone mentioned the cell towers may be unavailable in regional emergency situations. We're in NY so it has happened.
- other than that, 90% of the calls I get on the landline are fricken robo-calls. So annoying. The only legit calls are the things we sign the kids up for and they don't happen to use email (ie. swimming).

Correct unless you're grandfathered in from several years ago when Ooma paid the monthly fees on your behalf. All things considered it's definitely worth considering.

My monthly bill is around $3.50 and it's worth every penny. Call quality is solid, crisp, clear and reliability has been near 100%.

If you have a fax machine, alarm system or ancient DVR that dials out I'm not sure if Ooma plays nice with those systems or not.

Best of all we haven't received a single spam or robocall on our Ooma number, yet.

You buy the phone and no more bills..... nada nothing.
Did not know they changed the payment plans on the new hardware.

Only time you pay if you want long distance to other nations.
Or if you want extra bells and whistles added to yourselvice like call forwarding or tracking and stuff like that.

When I first bought OOMA it cost me $230 but latest run to bestbuy I see it costs now just $140 plus tax

I have had roku streaming and world of warcraft running and amazon movie all at the same time while talking on OOMA and it sounded great.

You can use fax machine with Ooma. I used it on mine and it worked fine.

I wouldn't get Ooma now. $3.50 a month is still money wasted every month. Why pay that when Obihai is available and it's free? Best plan now is to buy Obihai for like $35 and never pay another monthly fee.

Fax can work with VoIP (like Ooma), but it often doesn't. It's inconsistent from home to home and inconsistent sometimes for the same home too. IOW, it's unreliable over VoIP. That's not necessarily a big deal for the occasional user, but not a good idea to run your business fax off it. In my case I have a full time job but also have extra work on the side that requires a reliable fax. I need to receive tens of fax pages at a time several times a week when I'm doing that work. The small amount extra I have to spend per month is easily worth it for the reliability.

I have a Tracfone for my convenience to call out when not at home but it's tuned off most of the time. The signal isn't that great at home either but the few times i've used it at home i haven't had problems but i wouldn't want to rely only on that.

DSL at home too. Never looked into if i need to keep phone service with that. It's only $15/mo. anyway.

Nothing wrong with TracFone. I have had it for the last 3 years. Only once has the $99 refill card not lasted me a full year and that was when I was doing side work for a pain in the ass lady that would call me 3 times a day. I don't really need a smart phone as 99% of the time I am either at home or at my girlfriend's with my lappy.
 
Got rid of mine a few years ago because TWC wouldn't lower my price ($58 per month then PLUS $0.10 per minute for long distance). Thought I would miss it but boy, was I wrong. Blessing in disguise!!! Of course, TWC has begged many times trying to give me service for as low as $19.00 per month. No thanks.
