I am perfectly content with my ATI Xpert98.. anyone else perfectly happy with their old cards?

Even if I had a free GF3 card, I won't install it even if you pay me $5.

Am I missing something, 8MB... VisionTek GeForce3?
Those definitely do not go together. lol
I presume your referring to something besides the GF3?

I have two friends that are still running a 3dfx Velocity 100, and Matrox G200 respectively... both 8MB cards.
I'm still using an old Voodoo 3 3000/16MB, not quite an 8MB card but still relatively old. Am about to upgrade though.

I had an 8mb ATI Rage Pro..it did the job (actually..my SLI Voodoo2s did :)), then I put an 8mb Vanta in, which was better. After buying a Kyro II, however, there's no turning back :D

What difference does it make when you're not playing any games or using your computer as toys?

By the way I am talking about videocards used by consumers in a domestic use computers. I am not going to include Professional CADS, because such is rarely found in homes and businesses that wants to do hardcore CADS will use something like high end SGI system.

I'm w/ Jerboi, if you aren't playing games and the like, 8MB's is more than enough. My mom's laptop has an 8 MB video card and for what she uses the laptop for, it's more than enough. Hell, she doesn't know what Unreal & Quake are :)

Depends what your doing. I can think of lots of non-gaming apps that demand a good video card.
The most prominent area being professional level CAD, but there are certainly many others as well.

The average user that does work in office apps, and surfs the net etc. may not need anything more, but it's hardly only gamers that want more memory or a powerful graphics card then what most 8MB variants are.

I've still got an old Matrox Mystique 220 4Mb with Rainbow runner add-on card, I use it for troubleshooting all the time. In my machine machine I've got a G400 - guess it wont be long till thats sitting in a box next to the Mystique!

video card: ATI Xpert98 AGP 8MB
Well I am running 1152x864, 16bit color 85Hz on a 17" monitor using large font mode. I like to push the resolution, because its nice to have more room.

It can handle 32bit no problem at above setting. Why do I need anything greater? 1152x864 is pretty much the limit on 17" monitor. I wouldn't mind a new 19" or 21" monitor. I'll get to it when I feel like it. I am just a little paranoid about getting an unlucky monitor. I'd rather stick with my good 17" than get an unlucky crap you know what I mean?.

Gaming is really the driving force behind faster vid cards, especially on-line gaming. Framerate is Life!
Faster framerate means that you have a cleaner, clearer picture even during fast motion like turning your head/body, so you're more apt to see that gun barrel sticking out around the corner before it blows your @$$ off.

If you don't play games much, like me, then you don't really need the latest card, unless you just want to have the highest 3DMark score in all the land.

No this is a serious thread. I am a pretty heavy user and I don't see how most other people can't be satisfied with Xpert98. I can easily spend 3hrs on the net and more hours writing stuff or making presentation with Office. It is one of the most practical card out there and its been 3 or more years and its STILL being made by ATI. Despite the fact you can easily buy an Xpert98 separately, most pre-built computers don't usually have anything below TNT64 32MB, because the demand is so low. I think they still offer 4MB vid card for servers though.

My OS is Win Me and I predominantly run MS Office, ICQ and IE or NS. Some CD recording, mp3, audio editing, Photoshop, bit of simple CAD, bit of scientific stuff like physics calculation. Sometimes I play a bit of Solitaire and minesweeper. Ofcourse I have a bit of useless sharewares. Well thats about it. I think that covers almost all the consumer use. Communication, Office work, multimedia and lil extra. I am proud of the fact I KNOW how to use and take an advantage of MS Office. My friends tells me 8MB is a joke, yet I find them asking me 'Jer how do you do double space on Word, how do you make graph with Excel'. I would have hoped they'd know like the very basic before they'd even know the diff between vid card A & B.
