Anyone still a fan of SNL?

I remember a decade ago when this show was a concession for staying in on Saturday.

The cast has not been replinished like it used to be and I struggle to keep from switching channels.

At least there is Tina on the show.

Sorry, it just grinds my gears to see this show just be on because of tradition. Mad TV is way better nowadays

It wasn't even that funny when Chris Farley was there. There were the occasional nuggets, but by and large most of the skits were just annoying pap.

I can't even remember the last time I could sit through a whole SNL episode without falling asleep from sheer boredom.

I heard Tina & Rachel left the show.

that is correct. there are also rumors of a large cast overhaul, as lorne said their budget has shrunk.

SNL hasn't been funny in a LOOOOOONG time. Even when it was funny, it was only sort of funny some of the time. I can't STAND Rachel Dresch (or whatever that little fugly midget's name is). If I didn't love breasts so much I'd be gay because of her.

I haven't watched SNL with any regularity since the mid-90s. I haven't watched it all (except for maybe passing by while channel-surfing) in about 6 years.

I guess I am not the only one that feels this way.

I am just wondering why this show is still on the air.

Did it have 10-year bumps like this in the past?

It's always gone through high's and low's, but I don't think it's ever sunk this low for so long. The problem is that there is zero hint or signs of redemption. There is nothing going on with the show or its cast that indicate it's going to get any better. In fact, all signs point to it tanking even further.

SNL was good in the early nineties when mike myers was on the show. It was also good back when belushi and martin was on the show. In between, there was a whole lot of sucking. I blame Lorne Michaels. He really doesn't have much talent for picking talent and he get's way more credit in that area than he deserves.

I think everyone prefers the era of SNL when they first started watching it. For me that was when Adam Sandler and Chris Farley were on the show.

I think that's still the case - the kind of humor they use now appeals more to younger people.

Weekend Update is still good though.

As bas as SNL sucks, what else are they going to put on at 11:30 PM on Saturday night that could reasonably do much better?

With NBC's recent track record-- nothing.

Paint Drying? Because that's what I feel like I'm watching now...

Yeah, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley and David Spade with a blast of Myers at the beginning and Will at the end... for me at least.

People say every year that the show was better a previous year, and that it's not as good as it used to be. In most cases people are right though 😛 - They have a lot of good comedic talent now, they just aren't using it well. The show suffers from some bad writing as well.

I'm not 'fed up' with it though, it's not that bad. I always laugh my ass off when i see old SNL reruns with Farley and the gang though, or even reruns of when Will Ferrell was on. Good times. Only about 8 new SNL shows every year now, so they don't work too hard, that would be the job to have i guess 😛

Doesn't the comedic talent pretty much write its own material? I know they have auxillary writers, but I thought the actors wrote the majority of their own skits.
