Anyone setup a long range wireless network before with directional panels?

Anyone setup a long range wireless network before with directional panels? I am contemplating setting up a wireless network with some directional panels but dont know the first thing about. The two points are about 1/4 mile away and have basically line of site, corner of a bldg might cut me off, but well prob figure something out for line of site. I heard that Linksys WAP11's are good to use, and with those you dont even need a wireless card. Can you just plug directly into their ethernet and plug an antenna into them?
