Anyone seen Win2k do this? Bug?

You have a window open and select an .mpg file and the preview pane on the left opens a built-in 'media player' window and shows a preview of the .mpg but you are greeted with an error message.

Now I havent got the latest MP installed, I find it too buggy, but I still cant get away from its cockups.

Here are the details as reported in the event viewer:
First

<< Application popup: Explorer.EXE - Application Error : The instruction at "0x08c421e1" referenced memory at "0x08c421e1". The memory could not be "read". >>

10 mins later it did it again

<< Application popup: explorer.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x4a01259d" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read". >>

I'm no expert but looking at the first error how can an instruction reference memory at the same address?
Also the 2nd msg, not possible to refference memory at 0x00000000 is it?

Is this a software bug?
I have seen 2k do this on several different installs, sp2 didnt fix it.

Cheers

Dom.

that's just a good ol' "illegal operation" crash. no way to track it down and no way to fix it, just like every other major problem in windows.

By MP, did you mean SP? Also, try running sfc to make sure that media player or the codecs aren't corrupted.
