I believe the original, with Penelope Cruz, is Open Your Eyes

This one should have been called Open Your Eyes Wide Shut. I hated the ending.

When his wife drove him off the bridge into the wall, he got put into that suspended stage at that point. He dream sequence pattern thing-a-mabob got screwed up and thats why he was a mess. I think that is how it went, it was quite a while ago that I saw it.

I think you can do both at the same time if you see "Eyes Wide Shut"

The problem was that despite the confusion it remained in the realm of reality until the end, when it borrowed a Matrix like solution to explain the whole thing. All of sudden it became a Sci-fi movie.

Ugh....I tried watching that once....my GF at the time wanted to see it. Talk about a bad movie....it's only redeeming quality was the scene where all the hot naked women are in a circle....other than that the movie is a freaking waste.

That movie is awesome!!

The part of the movie up to the time he passes out in the street after leaving the club was real. All the events after that were part of his virtual reality.

The movie didn't do much for me the first time I watched it. You really gotta see it a couple of times to appreciate how good it is. Excellent film.

I actually liked it and I didn't think I would. Aceshigh is right on when the dream or other reality started. Did you even watch the rooftop scene? Its kinda explained everything there, not sure how you missed it.

I think it started when he plowed off the bridge. If you watch the end, that tech guy says that Tom Cruise actually never meets Penelope, but rather she is a combination of all his childhood memories and ideal women.

But he met her before the bridge incident. I'll have to watch the ending again.
Hmmm... thinking about it again, I think you are right. The tech says "You barely knew her" which implies that he met her.

I just tried watching this. I got about 1/2 way through it and tried to gouge my brain out. What a gawd awful movie. I can't believe there is something worse that "Eyes Wide Shut".

Both movies are excellent to me. What was really so bad about it? No explosions?

Anyway, everything after the club scene where he falls asleep on the street isn't real.

They used that as the insertion point for his dream sequence. What actually happened was after a few days, he found the web site for the cryo place and basically killed himself so he could be admitted. He chose that morning as the beginning of his dream so that he could live with this woman whom he thought he loved, even though they only met twice.

People who complain like that about movies generally have no valid reasons to saying it's a bad movie other than the fact that they just didn't like it.

Unfortunately, they don't get that just because you didn't like a film, doesn't mean it's a bad movie. :)

I watched it tonight for the first time and understood it clearly by the end. Am I that bright, or are so many people really this dense?

Aceshigh is correct. Everything is explained to you at the end of the movie. They'd have to draw you a freakin' picture to be any more clear.
