Those are the finest invisible ink drawings I've ever seen. You shouldn't show all the header information though, for provacy reasons.

Hey, this site is cool. I just detonated a 1 megaton surface device in my city - BOOM! - and I'm dead.

First, the actual existence of "suitcase" nukes is disputed. While it may be a good exercise to entertain their existence, it is not a foregone conclusion that they do in fact exist.

If they did, a 1 megaton device would be rather large for a suitcase nuke, maybe even impossible. 15 - 20 kiloton is far more believable. 100 kiloton would be pushing it.

The weight of such a device would be immense. A nuke needs a minimum of 67kg (147lbs) of Plutonium for critical mass, this can be reducded a bit with a very high explosive implosion before chain-reaction occurs. If you don't want someone to die after being within 20' of the thing for 5seconds you would need some solid lead sheilding. Depending on if you wanted to kill the guy delivering it, you would need probably between 4-12inches of lead around the explosive core. Add in the weight of timing devices, explosives to start the reaction and other misc items and you are probably looking at around 500lbs minimum. If you see anyone dragging a suitcase around that weighs 500lbs, get worried, otherwise, don't.

They exist. Or did exist during the 80s. I worked with a couple of flavors. Even spray painted some OD green.

The ones in the arsenal were designed to blow bridges in Europe. Same two person control as the rest. Same safeguards as for regular warheads. < 1 KT yield. Intended employment with Two man teams of combat engineers. Many bridges were also prechambered for emplacement. They weighed around 85 pounds.

The above info was unclassed about '94 or '95 because I read about it in WSJ or something like that. Ask me no more about it.

but still a link would be nice.

If I had one, I'd sure link it. Unfortunately, I can't link my experiences from '84-'86. Besides, if I ever want another TS govt job, they'll prolly ask me about this.

Link to Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists

"The Davy Crockett fission bomb, fielded by the United States in Europe from 1961 to 1971, is the smallest confirmed nuclear weapon. Its miniature warhead weighed only 51 pounds, had a yield of 0.1 kilotons and a maximum range of 2.49 miles, and could be launched from a recoilless rifle or a jeep. It was deployed by U.S. Army forces in Europe for use against advancing Soviet troops."

Should get you in the general vicinity regarding sizes.

Jeezus, shooting that round off on a rifle or a jeep would be certain suicide wouldn't it?!
