Anyone seen the new AMD Athlon II X3 400e/405e yet?

well i've seen the 705e sell on ebay oem for under $100. Though retail seems to be more than that.

Seeing as a 705e 2.5 ghz has a 6mb L2 cache, and a 405e would have 0 mb and 2.3 ghz. It could be possible that the retail cost of a 405e would be like $100 even for a retail unit. At least I think that would be reasonable.

Then again it might cost the same since its 45W instead of 65W

A few sources including xbitlabs.com are claiming the Athlon X4 630( 2.8Ghz, 65W) will be released on August 23 with the Athlon X4 620, and Athlon X4 6XXe series to follow shortly after.

As far as price nothing has been released yet, but I'm thinking the 630 will be below $140 as it is suppose to be "mainstream" and early speculated performance shows it is going to be much slower than Phenom II.

Next I'd like to see some AM3 Mini-ITX motherboards that I can slap these 45w X3/X4s into.

xbitlabs said the 13th not the 23rd

No need for AM3 sockets. you can still use AM2+ with them. You may get slightly lower power consumption with DDR3 though.

According to xbitlabs, the Phenom II X4 965 is on the 13th, Athlon II X4 630 is the 23rd, and the 600e/605e after that. So more waiting on the 45w quad core. No news on the 45w X3.

I know I can use an AM3 cpu on an AM2+ motherboard. I'm a little concerned that the motherboard BIOS won't support the AM3 cpu initially, which means I will have to flash an updated BIOS. But I can't flash without a working CPU, or can I? If not, a catch 22.

In addition, the AMD ITX market is pretty slim on choices right now. I haven't seen anything new since the Zotac 8200 ITX back in December. I really really want to see more AMD ITX boards come out for these 45w X3/X4s.

"Sunnyvale, California-based AMD also plans to launch new triple-core Athlon II X3 central processing units sometimes in September or October to complete its new lineup of chips made using 45nm process technology that is aimed at mainstream and entry-level price-segments."

if you dont care about ddr3, there are boards out now that support them that are mini itx.

the j&w board does (i have it with a am3 chip in it) and the jetway ones i'm fairly certain do

jetway makes a 780g board but its harder to find. there is also a shuttle 760g xpc cube and a 8200 geforce cube, if you are ok with buying a shuttle.

and the impossible to find j&w board unless you are out of the US.

i am hoping zotac makes an AMD chipset board someday, but they seem to be very nvidia centric outside of the X58 lineup.
