It just came out but when I tried to install it, it didn't work and gave an error code of

Strange! anyone know what is going on?

I had one update and also that one optional, just installed them both and had no issues after restart with the updates.

Yea I had a weird optional update that was around 736MB and I think it installed fine to my knowledge but that was at home and I am now at work.

Btw known issues with one of these updates last night (optional one)and Avast AV,happened to me as well, more info in this thread https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=160717.0

I had to uninstall Avast and switch to Panda free after the above Windows updates with issues I had,ie lag in general with PC ,random freezes,PC waiting and waiting at restart or shutdown and not doing nothing, uninstalling Avast fixed ALL my issues.

Hint hint, don't bother with antimalware, just use Defender and common sense. Things won't generally fall apart on updates.

First time ever a WU gave me AV issues, regardless Panda 2015 free and Malwarebytes free version working fine, less resources then Defender and better detection rate too, common sense as well and hardware firewall,I leave no stone unturned 😉 .

The updated hoosed the network connection to limited both of my Win 8.1 boxes. I un-installed the update and one machine recovered just fine while the other is stuck at 11% updating after the reboot after un-installing.

Good news from Avast,

We have been able to simulate the problem in our lab and I think we fixed this issue. This Windows updates calls new memory related functions which are not fully compatible with avast. We'll prepare EmUpdate with the patched driver tomorrow morning (it means, all & new avast installations should be patched immediately, that's how it works).

I uninstalled Avast, installed the update which installed in amazingly short order, and then installed Panda. Thanks Mem. I will switch back to Avast once it is patched/corrected.

That error code means you cancelled the install (it also means you started the install yourself, as opposed to it being installed in the background.) If you didn't hit cancel, can you upload C:\windows\windowsupdate.log somewhere?

Two computers. One computer is a low-specs one. The other computer is an i7, 16 Gb RAM, etc.

For days, I've tried to download & install Windows Update Kb3000850, on those two computers. I'm getting nowhere.

I've replaced Avast antivirus with another brand.

I've disabled antivirus and firewall.

After download & install, the Update wrecked ClassicShell, and other programs. The Task Manager would no longer open. I could not switch off my computers. In other words, a mess.

I managed, with luck, to restore the system.

I then decided to try again.

The best, it's getting to four per cent of the download. Beyond that, nothing.

Do my computers really need Windows Update Kb3000850 ??

I thank you all in advance.

I downloaded and installed KB3000850 three times and it failed to install every time. Also downloaded the standalone version, and failed there, as well. Tried MS Fixit, etc., but nothing worked.

Finally ran sfc /scannow, found some file errors that couldn't be fixed by SFC, so used DISM to clean up the file errors. Then KB3000850 installed perfectly, and my Win 8.1 system runs as smoothly as before.
