Ok, after the first or second episode, I see that the meaning of the title applies not to people being saved, but to the firefighters themselves, as we watch them try to deal with messed up lives. Some kind of message about the downsides of being a tuff guy, one of which may be stupidity, as there are 2 dumb characters in the fire house.
What really annoyed me about last night's episode was the chief, (I forget his character's name) who is on trial for pummeling the gay guy. He gets off by bringing his gay son in as a character witness yet completely shuns him, won't bring him home to ma, or even introduce him to his crew. That was the last straw for me and i officially hate this character, I hope he dies in a burning building next episode, and if not, every episode therafter. His character is so dumb and hass been since episode one where he's watching football instead of minding a burning building. Increasingly dumb when he doesn't listen to any of the advice about this trial, and completely heartless for not really thanking his own son for saving his life.
I must admidt, the show in general is starting to bug me, it's a non-stop theme of how fvcked up each firefighter's life is and is pretty dark. I thought it might ligten up a bit when dennis leary's character was talking to that girl (hell they even used that in the preview) but it turned out he was imagining it and she was already dead. I understand having an underlying theme to a show, and have no objection to this one, as long as it isn't so constant. I'm at the point where I get it, and I wouldn't mind seeing these guys do something nice and be happy for a change, if only for a moment.
