1700+ is not a Barton core. What do I win?

EDIT: And as others pointed out, AXP should have SSE. Odd..

And the board to have was the highly stable and very overclockable Abit NF7-S v2.0

I remember they have those components on the substrate, did you bridge a connection on one of them? It's been so long since I've read up on AXP modding. :p

K7S5A a great OCer?! I had 3 of them, they were anything BUT!

Also, make sure you got some airflow on the CPU VRMs. Mine melted down in a blaze of glory after no airflow for 3yrs. Took out the board, my PSU and the CPU. Let all the magic smoke out.

this is a tbred 2000+ as far as i know it was the only one that had all 512K of L2 cache on board, but half was disabled.... you can connect some bridges and enable the rest.... it made a big big difference... it performs about like my Northwood 2.4b @ default... but that northwood will clock to 3.5 and blows it away.... but i havent attempted to clock this chip yet.... i need to flash my board to the latest bios so i can do the multi unlock bridge trick and take advantage of that..

I had that board, as well as the K7S5A mentioned by the OP.

Both great boards for their times, though the Abit is better by far.

Currently running an Abit IP35-E and it's like reliving the Celeron 300A @ 450 days with my E2140...
