A guy at my work was telling me that he scans most of his bills/medical statements, etc into his computer thus creating a paperless office.

Anyone else do this? Sounds interesting and I'm wondering if there is any software you use to organize everything into 'folders?'

Thanks.

I do!

I have a slightly older version of THIS.

It creates searchable PDFs as well as JPGs automatically.
Come with Acrobat (NOT reader).
It will scan anything from 11x17 down to cash register receipts.

It does NOT come with a TWAIN driver but this does not concern me.

I do and I keep a secure "digital locker" online. But I also keep my file cabinet as backup ... so i guess it's kind of pointless, but I like the ability to access all my stuff from anywhere.

I thought about doing this once... Never got around to it though. Most everything I care about is available online.

I've been doing it for years. I see no real point in keeping old bills, but every once in a blue moon, I need to reference one. It's better than keeping all that paper around IMO.

I just created my own folders and save accordingly. Not a biggie. Once you get started, there is not that much to deal with if you don't let it pile up.

I use an inexpensive Visioneer scanner. The software allows me to save everything as a PDF.

Not right now but I would if I had to. I keep important documents in my files, but since Bank of America, my Nissan Payments, and my Scottrade account can all be accessed with full history reports any time I want online I just don't see a point. Eventually, when I start to actually do something important with my life, I can see the benefit.

I do... I just save everything as PDF, and put it in my own filesystem hierarchy. I have a Canon multifunction printer w/ a sheet-feed and flatbed scanner on it.

I sorta do this. Most of the companies I receive bills from have soft copies on their websites. I just download their .pdf files to save me from having to scan them myself. Once I have the eCopy, I just shred the paper version.

Yeah, pricey but when compared to buying MORE FK'IN file cabinets for KGBMRS, it's a bargain.
She runs her own business out of the house and is required by law to keep files for a minimum of six years for auditing puposes.

That little scanner has saved my life (and back).

Can I have it in landscape mode? :)

I use an HP Officejet to sheet-feed bills and invoices, then use Dropbox to sync the info between home and office.

I do, there is no software that can think, so the "filing" is done by humans who can classify things properly. The trick is to get a good scanner. A flatbed, no matter how expensive is NOT a good scanner for this purpose. The scanner linked to above is probably pretty slow.

I have two HP 9100C Digital Senders. They do NOT require a computer except as a dump.
