Anyone running the Loki UT/OpenGL/S3TC hack with success? Not working for me.

I've followed the instructions to the letter, even deleting my original install with all the mods and DLed maps to start from scratch and IT LOOKS TERRIBLE AND RUNS LIKE BUTT!!!!

I can tell that the new textures are being used (when I switch to D3D, I can see the diff) but the Earth in "Face" looks grainy and there are terrible alpha-blending and filtering errors. (Black outline around the flames on top of the towers and HUGE pixels that look like PSX graphics!) Also, I'm getting only mid-20s FPS as opposed to the 80+ I usually get in D3D.

WTF is the problem?!? I lost a lot in this move and I'm sorely disappointed.

Vital Specs:

Abit BE6-II (2/1/00 QY BIOS)
P3-700 @ 927 MHz (SL454, 132x7)
384MB (3 x 128MB) PC133 RAM (Micron)
ASUS V7700 GeForce2 GTS (210/375 on leaked 6.31 drivers)
Creative Labs Soundblaster Live! Platinum (LiveWare 3.0)

Hope someone can help! Thanks!

Hmm.. I tryed the s3tc for patch 428 (or was it 425) it worked fine.. and my fps went up with a cuple of frames (bellow 60fps 1024*768*32). But it was way to dark to play with.

How is this version, is the OPENGL s3tc combo as dark as the older version?

I see one thing that might be hindering your performance. In the file below it tells you to set Detail Textures to True. From what I have read on other forums (UT forum) others using S3TC, they say that detailed textures are not needed and only slow performance. It's worth a try just set DetailTextures=False, and see it that helps your performance.

[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
UseGammaExtension=0
UseModulatedGamma=0
UseS3TC=1
MinDepthBits=32
MaxLogUOverV=8
MaxLogVOverU=8
UseMultiTexture=1
UsePalette=1
UseAlphaPalette=0
ShareLists=0
AlwaysMipmap=0
DoPrecache=1
Translucency=True
VolumetricLighting=True
ShinySurfaces=True
Coronas=True
HighDetailActors=True
DetailTextures=True <---------- Set this to False
UseTrilinear=True

I should've left well enough alone.:( It was running like blazes in D3D and looked just fine. OpenGL has visual quirks, but I had D3D mode.

The article linked above claims that the configuration was the result of trial and error and user feedback. Even so, I don't get why my performance is so bad AND the alpha blending probs are happening.

I fopund the 432 patch worked much better with the Loki OGL driver than 428. All I did was replace the OpenGL DLL with Loki's and edit the INI similar to above. Runs much smoother and faster than D3D. It is dark though. This is running a Prophet II 64.

Got it figured out. Weird what was happening, but when I redownloaded the OpenGL.dll, I used IE instead of Netscape. A little tweaking of gamma and stuff later, it's running and I'm getting over 100 fps WITH the S3TC textures. Wow!

The page said that if you have trouble DLing the file, use IE. If you clicked the link, it'd fill the screen with gibberish, so I right-clicked and Save As...ed. When I DLed with IE, it brought up the Save box and now it works and works GREAT!!! Mindblowing speed and the game looks even better.

Thing is, ya gotta wonder what the hell they're thinking at Epic. Making Unreal Glide-friendly makes sense when you remember what the landscape was 3-4 years ago, but a disc full of textures for S3?!?!?:Q Huh?
