Hi. I have the 8KTA+ (no frills, good performance at very good price). I also got a Duron from FS/FT forum from a very respectable trader (the Duron man.. you know.. :)). It's a guaranteed 750@1050, which he has ran on MSI K7T Pro2A & Abit KT7 with FOP-32. My setup is the Epox & Alpha6035 with YSTech fan, which I think is par with the FOP...

BUT, I can't hit even 1Ghz!!! She's ROCK STABLE at 950. As soon as I do 1G, I get the dreaded Winblows Protection Error, or when I do get into the windows, it'll eventually lock up...

Sooo... I'm thinking it's either the mobo or the cooler. I'll be ordering a FOP anyway, but was wondering if anyone's running 1G+ on this board... If so, can you tell me the HSF unit you guys are using? Also, which bios version (I'm running the 11/2000)?

Help? Thanks.

8KTA2 T-bird 750@ 1ghz @ 1.825 Bio 11/29/2000 on Ultra160 w/ cheap no brand HSF. (stable at 1050 @ 1.825 as well, but I like the rounded number ;) )

update! Just check my HSF, it is indeed this cheap DP5 coolmaster brand. I got it for $13 at my local computer store.

Dammit... That's a sweet chip you got there... I take it that that's a nice blue chip you have, huh? ;)

Hmm... so I guess the board is able to handle the speed... may be cooling...? But then you're using a cooler master of all things!!!

Btw, I like my chips to end on either 50 or an odd number... go figure.. :) I got 700@933, 633@950 & this 750@950 (hopefully @1050 soon...) ARGHHH....

If I recall it correctly,(please don't ask me to open my case and mess w/ the HS clip), I have the green one.

Where I got it? It was RMA from AMD headquarter. (again, don't ask me how I got my RMA) :) But I do have this cute Black Plastic Box w/ Gold AMD logo print on top of it.

i have a 900 running at 1000 at the default 1.75 volts. im using the 10/15/00 bios (i think that's the date, i have tried the newer bios's but even though they are supposed to fix ram instability they actually cause instability). the thing is that i can't do squat over 1000 stable, even up to 1.85 volts. i doubt it is the board...it's probably either my chip, my pencil lines, my hack job install of winME, etc... and i am using the taisol 733. it's not the temps because the temp reads around 28 idle and up to about 43 under very heavy load (it's chilly in my room in upstate NY) and that is with the side panel of the case off.

have any of you guys noticed the strange Ram speed settings on the 8kta2?...when i set SDRAM to 133 and increase FSB to 106..instead of 139mhz memory speed, the bios reports it at 141..and at 108 FSB, my memory is 144. This is not good because the ram i'm currently using has a maximum CAS 2 speed of 143, and i would like to be able to run 110 FSB, but on the Epox board that would result in a 145+ memory speed.

yes i have noticed it and i will tell you why... the memory clock is the hosk clock + the pci clock. the pci clock is found by dividing the host clock (fsb) by 3. therefore, the default memory speed is fsb + fsb/3 where fsb=100mhz and fsb/3=33mhz=pci clock which means the ram runs at 133mhz. now, if you set the fsb to 108, the pci clock is now 108/3 which is 36mhz. so, the memory speed, which is fsb + pci clock is now 108+36=144mhz. do the same math at a fsb of 106 and you get a memory clock of 106 + 106/3 which is 106 + 35.33 = 141.33 mhz, which is rounded to 141.
