What are your impressions? I have always wanted to try a Dual proc system but there is no way I am shelling out the cash for an Opteron system.

What board are you running with your MPs? What kind of power supply is needed to run these chips??

My current set up is getting long in the tooth, time for a change.

I recently sold my dual MP1800 system because the CPU's were just too slow for modern use... I play a lot of UT2K4 and they just would not cut it.

although, if I had been running MP2800's, and had the system ina larger case, I would have considered keeping the system. an SMP system is very fun to have, and very useful, the saying is pretty true, once you go SMP, you won't go back to single... but the problem is it's too hard to find hardware, and too $ with the only viable option being Opterons right now...... but you would probably love the dual MP2800's... should be plenty fast compared to my old 1800's... I had them on a K7D Master-L mobo and it worked sweet.

all was running with a standard SPI 300W power supply, with no issue at all.

I used to have dual 1800, but got 2800s to replace the 1800s about 5 months ago. They run great, though you're still stuck with pc 2100 memory.

unreal 2004 runs great with a 9800 pro at 1280x1024. However, you won't get the same performance as a single 2800 System with ddr400. Remember, low bus speeds Combined with low memory speed don't lead to the performance you might expect from a single processor of the same speed with fast memory and bus speed.

I wouldn't buy a whole Athlon mp system now, I Just upgraded mine with the 2800s because I had the board and 1800s for a couple years and didn't want to spend for a whole new dual opteron system.
