I cannot get my brand new SATA Seagate 120G NCQ ready HD to work as the boot disk. I've tried using Seagate's Disk Wizard 2003 to mirror my currently installed PATA Seagate 40 HD to save time, The files were visible as a secondary drive, I tried some simple apps and they worked off the E Drive and all was fine. When I shutdown disconnected the 40 Gigger and checked the bios for disk recognition all was ok. upon reboot was greeted with error message as OS Error. So I tried setting CMOS no dice. So then I tried format reload windows F6 for NV Raid and controllers in A: they seemed to load but now I get the Error Mesage as Problem Loading OS. The disk is recognized by the BIOS and works as a secondary HD but no worky as a C: drive. So I ask who is running a single SATA HD and Am I missing some sort of Install order or Voodoo dance to get the darn thing to work. TIA System is as follows A64 3200, A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard, 2X EVGA 6600 GTs, 1 GIG Muskin Level2 DDR 400 Ram, Toshiba DVD Drive & Onboard Sound. P/S is an Enermax NoiseTaker 485 Watts.

Are you saying you tried to copy your windows installation off your old drive onto your new drive and put your new drive in a brand new system? You need to format the new drive and do a clean fresh install of windows. Then put your old drive in and copy over anything (data or whatever else you want) to the new drive.

I have an Asus A8N-Sli Deluxe also with an Antec Neo-480 and an AMD64 3500 running XP Pro.I also have a Seagate 160 Gb NCQ hd.
I hooked the sata cable to the #1 sata port that is handled by the N-Vidia chip and didn't use the raid setup.I also went into the bios and disabled the other sata controller. The single Seagate is listed as drive C:
I also changed the boot order to place the drive first in the boot sequence.
I hope this can help you out bro....I've built a few PC's but am far from an expert. There are some sharp people on this forum and I'm sure they'll fix ya up..
Good luck

Tried Both ways the disk image option that comes with Seagate's DiskWizard 2003 and a REFORMAT, then RELOADED Windows with the f-6 option for the NV controller files on A that I made from the Motherboard CD. No dice either way. Boot sector problem? The disk works fine as a secondary hard drive just won't do master and the problem here is I bought the damn thing so I could use the 4o giggger for another machine. I just don't know, I've never dealt with this problem before.

Hune, i just had those same symptoms with a seagate drive (pata). Exact same. Imaged the OS partition, unplugged old drive, turned back on and nothing. Tried to install windows and it went into a continuous loop of copyiing setup files for xp install. When i tried to do a repair of the imaged drive, it said it was fine. Bios recognized and everything.

I plugged my original drive back in and everything is working like a champ.

Only solution i have is to return the drive because there is a problem with it.

I have the 120gb seagate sata also and it's working great. I didn't have the problems but I wasn't trying to bring anything over from a pata drive. Did you try loading everything directly to the sata without the pata plugged in at all?

Yes I have tried everything after the Drive Image attempt, Quick format, Regular format, the silicon controller, all to no avail. Just like Homer above I've done the endless loop of windows installs. Looks like this puppy's going back. Thanks for the replys.:)
