I've become more and more curious about these shoes, they seem to be very comfy and perfect for my 2 mile runs. Anyone have a pair?

They look pretty much like today's long distance/cross country shoes. Some people on my team in HS preferred to run in standard running shoes and others preferred the 'barely covers the feet, light, thin' shoes.

Nike Free seem neato enough to me..

sort of. the midsole has no rigidity at all, so your foot bends however it wants to. I myself haven't ran in them yet but I know many people who have and I have yet to hear a complaint. Just remember that they are to be used as a training tool, ideally 20 minutes per week. They are NOT meant to be used as everyday trainers.

Yeah I heard they should be only used for recovery runs, nothing uptempo, just cruising and training in general like Scorch suggested. How much you running these days Scorch?

well they do give "cushioning" primarily in the heel and arch area...support, I'd say no. Your feet are supposed to be able to "flop" around in the Frees.

they don't look very supportive, cusioning, or durable, I give em a  without even trying them on. (This is coming from someone who goes through at least 4 pairs of running shoes a year for the past 6 years)

remember though comp, that the frees are not running shoes, but rather training shoes at best. They are just meant to strengthen support muscles that we don't use when running with standard shoes on. I just got back in from running, this sudden heatwave here in MD is quite a change from what I've been running in...but to get back on topic i hope to go try on a pair at a local shoe store here and see how they feel.

Me too. It looks like it has a separate compartment for the big toe. Seems like that would feel weird.

Not too much :( I'm still recovering from my stress fracture, so I'm on a schedule of 4 miles one day, 3 miles next day, then a rest day, and repeat. Hoping to be back running every day, starting around 25-30 mpw, by July. Hope to be back up to 50mpw by the end og August.

Fritzo, I don't know what you're talking about. I haven't seen the Frees in person, but I haven't heard anything about them having a separate compartment for the big toe. Nike did have a shoe like that a few years back though.

And Knicknut, that is correct, they have almost no support whatsoever. They probably should not be used by flat-footed runners, although, for the amount of time you'd be wearing them, you might be able to get away with it.

It might be an optical illusion on their web page. It just looked like they separate your toe from the rest of them. Now that I look at it again, maybe not.

i went to a Finish Line and tried on a pair. They are extremely light, and do feel a bit squishy, definately different. I may pick up a pair down the road.
