Anyone root a Sony PRS-T1 or Nook Simple Touch ebook reader?

I couldn't come up with a reason to root the nook touch... So no. What do you want it to do that it doesn't do right now?

Rooted my Nook Simple Touch from the eBay deal this weekend. Haven't used it a ton yet, mainly did it to be able to use the Kindle app from it which I've already bought some books for. It also lets you do basic web browsing (can load on Opera Mobile / Opera Mini / etc., but I doubt I'll use it much for that since I have another tablet for browsing).

But FYI, the Nook Simple Touch is running Android 2.1 (Eclair), and rooting it doesn't change that. And there aren't any custom ROMs yet (that I know of) that would get you a higher Android version either.

Well, I have been intrigued lately by the thought of word processing on an eInk screen. There are youtube videos which show a USB keyboard hooked up to a rooted Nook Simple Touch and working fine. So it would be very interesting installing an android dropbox word processor and typing into a USB keyboard on this eInk screen.

But the nook simple touch doesn't do audio. The sony does do audio. Also can be expanded with micro-sd.

nook simple touch --- rooted using TouchNooter. Installed Kindle App within the Nook. So now I can read kindle books and library ebooks as well. Installed Box.Net App ... and use it to transfer epubs into the Nook. Works Great !!

Calibre makes this completely unnecessary for me. What I'd really like to see is WiFi push capability for rooted devices. If I could send books from Calibre to my Nook Touch over WiFi I would be ecstatic. (I am a very lazy person)

I don't follow. Calibre is not going to do anything to Amazon Kindle books since they are encrypted. Amazon often has ebook sales where you can acquire FREE books for a limited time. The Kindle app within the Nook can read those books.

I do use Calibre ... but I have it set to use my Dropbox folder as its main repository. So anytime I convert books from within Calibre .... it automatically uploads to the Cloud. We have three Nooks (running TouchNooter) and they all have the Dropbox app. Piece of Cake. Especially since this way my wife can add the book to her Nook while on travel.

Calibre ALONE can't do it, but it's possible to break Amazon's DRM and convert from there. Can't really discuss it here because it's not legal by the books, but if you've actually paid for it then most would justify it morally. Just google it if you were interested.

No ... I am not interested since I prefer easier ways to read Kindle books ... which is ... through the Kindle App on my Nook Touch. Time is money and its inefficient IMHO to have to jump through hoops (and break DRM laws) to read Kindle Books.

Even though jumping through hoops is exactly what you did to get your Nook able to run the Kindle App. To each their own though... IMO it's easier to just hit a "convert" button on software and then dump to the Nook than to completely change the OS and use a different reader.
