Anyone RMA'ed Crucial Ballistix recently?

One of my 1GB ballistix (DDR2-800) modules went out on me today. I called to set up an RMA and the lady said they would need to replace all 4 modules because the newer version isn't compatible with the older.
Does anyone know what they replace it with? I assume it's still ballistix and the same speed but you never know.

I had some Kingston HyperX a few yrs ago and they tried as hard as they could to replace it with valueram. Hopefully crucial does better.

You likely have D9GMH (amazing for overclocking).
They'll replace it with D9JKH (not so amazing, but less likely to fail).

Same stuff in terms of branding/performance.
Unless you overclock heavily...then, well, that sucks a bit for you.

No, I don't normally overclock the ram. Funny thing is she mentioned that was probably one of the reasons the ram failed.
I told her the stick lasted at least a year and a half and she said that was odd that it lasted that long.

Oh well. at least they'll get replaced.

Try freezing them in your freezer for at least 24hrs. There was a thread a while ago on XS with sucessful results in doing so.

If Crucial still sell the modules you are RMA'ing, then most likely they'll replace them with the same..

However I tried to RMA some Ballistix DDR1 500Mhz modules about a year ago.. since they didn't sell them anymore, they wanted to replace the 2 1GB 500Mhz modules with 2 400Mhz standard modules. After a fair bit of arguing, they eventually gave me 3 1GB 400Mhz modules. Still not wonderful, but a fairer swap.

Finlally got an order confirmation on the replacement RAM.

Here is a link to it.

Not sure how to tell if they are D9JKH as n7 suggested.

You can't really tell without removing the heatspreaders.

But others have before you.

It's exactly the same performance, but this stuff can run with lower vDIMM, & doesn't overclock as high or allow for timings to be tightened as much.

Granted, if your previous kit was the 2.0v one, it might be the exact same ICs.
If you had the 2.2v one (my initial assumption), then these are newer ICs.

Obviously, the manufacturer doesn't guarantee ICs; they merely guarantee the same or equivalent RAM.

Yes, my previous ones all were the 2.2V. I remember her saying that the new ones differ in that they run at 2.0V.

One of two BL2KIT12864AA804 of my memory kits burned out after running @ 2.2volt and stock speeds for about 1.5 years.
I think the replacement modules were BL2KIT12864AA80A 2.0 volt, all run fine being overclocked to 800MHz
