we had a place in sol cal when i was in high school that had 24 networked mechwarrior pods. it went by the name of virtual world. they also had a racing game called red planet, but it was lame by comparison. i haven't seen anything quite like it since it closed down in 1998 or so when my company (fightertown entertainment of lake forect, ca) bought out that location. i know they were other places like it accross the country. they went so far as to serve pop rocks and jolt cola. it was great!

Virtual World? Oh, sure -- I built it in my capital. Makes network nodes help reduce the drone population if I recall correctly. Lost it in the great battle of 2349 against the Believers but recaptured it a few years later. Good times.

i remember going once to another place after the pasadena virtual world shut down, i think it was the puente hills mall in city of industry. i think that's where it was but i'm not sure, my memory is a bit hazy and i wasn't the one driving. heh. there was a game place that had different/newer looking pods and also a gaming cafe, lan party area where people were playing rts games of the time (starcraft or command and conquer). didn't have the club like atmosphere of virtual world though. no idea if that game place still exists, sorry.
