Anyone remember the Hemi vs Stage 1 rivalry?

I believe it was in MuscleCar Review magazine way back in about 1988.

They pitted a 1970 Plymouth GTX Hemi against a 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 for the best 2 out of 3 in a 1/4 mile drag race. Both cars were not stock, but the Buick more stock than the Hemi car.

This is how it started:

"Roy Badie shoots his mouth off that Buicks run like they are tied to a tree. He challenges a stage 1 to a race, the challenge gets accepted."

The Buick won, with both cars pulling mid to low 12 second runs.

I have that issue somewhere.

Ahh, the memories.

I understood that, but you had to live the period and drive some of those cars to really appreciate the comparison.

Man, classic cars are great. My dad has a '67 Charger, and although not that quick (318 automatic), it's sure fun to drive.

I know.

I did get to drive my friend's 1971 Challenger R/T 440 6 pack 4 speed and I was a paasenger in my other friend's 1971 Buick GS 455.

I wish more youngsters could get a chance to drive some of the cars I have been in.

I was a diehard MoPar fan in those days, owned several RR's, a few GTX's, a couple of SuperBee's. Funny that the Charger was about the only B car that I didn't own. I liked the Challengers, but alas, I am well, short and E bodys were not designed for us short folks. :(
