I am running XP with SB Live 5.1 and my sound is all messed up. I know it was an addressed problem a while back. What was it?

Hmmmm....my sound works fine. However, I think about a year and a half ago epic released some additional sound pack thing for 5.1 cards. Whether or not these included bug fixes, I do not know.

What do you mean messed up?

With Unreal Tournament on my machine the sound stutters, the only fix I found was go into Control Panel->Sounds (or whatever)->Advanced and move the sample rate slider, off the max settings and into the middle settings.

BTW, I have an original SBLive! Value.

Open the unrealtournament.ini file and stroll down until you see the following header and switch:

[Galaxy.GalaxyAudioSubsystem]
UseDirectSound=True

Set "UseDirectSound" to False.

You might lose a 1 or 2 fps, but it corrects the stuttering problem you've described without effecting anything else installed on the system.

I know the problem you speak of. Try this:

"To fix the crackly sound you sometimes get in UT, open advanced preferences (type preferences from console), open audio section, change effectschannels to 8, change latency to 60, restart UT." - copied from another site. I remember having to do that, and it fixed it up nice.
