If selling my house to purchase a single stuffed animal intended for infants is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I am gonna have a little fun, I just bought the same one for 8 bucks from another ebay. seller. When it comes in I will tell her about this new Tangible assets investment for 250K. And it will go to the moon :)

Bought the "Clear acrylic case" to make it look legit.

250k Good investment. :)

My little brother and mother were really into those when he was little, meaning that I got to eat a lot of mcdonald's happy meals at time...blah...
He did end with a few odd balls that sold for decent money, ~$100, on ebay though.

I collected those. Not sure why. I ended up finding them later, and gave them away as party favors for my daughter's birthday. Pretty cool grab bag filler I think.

I swear ebay has to be used for money laundering. No way these prices are real.

The beanie baby craze taught me at a young age that for the most part, not to follow trends and that when there is a lot of hysteria and excitement over something, it's likely a bubble that will burst.

I try to forget.

The wife still has many stored in containers in the guest bedroom closet, she even had my mother in law hooked on them, at one point she was following around the UPS truck on delivery days.

I just grimace a bit and face palm if they are mentioned these days.

I remember hearing about it... Was too young to care.

How the hell did people think that stuffed animals were worth so much?

Don't forgot those stupid tamagotchi's.

My sister has all our Mc Donalds toys. They go back to when Mario came out for Nintendo.

By trading stuff with friends and finding some on the side of the road, I somehow acquired all the toys from the Super Mario Bros. 3 Happy Meals when I was a kid. I wish I knew what happened to them.

Back then, my local comic book store stopped selling comics and sold only beanie babies. He had a Web TV gadget that he used to sell his beanie babies. And there were beanie babies EVERYWHERE.

He also neglected his old stock of comics. So, comics that were 3 to 5 times the cover price where never updated. I pointed out a few and he said; "Don't worry about it. Just give me what you think you should pay for them." Gave me a bunch of trade paper backs and few boxes of trading cards for free as well.

I sunk my money into early 90s baseball cards so I had nothing left to invest in Beanie Babys.

Herd mentality. Your neighbor tells you they got a BB a couple months ago that is already worth $20. You hear a co-worker talking about his wife lining up before the Hallmark store opens to score the latest rare BB because she flips them on ebay for 10x profit. After enough of those tales, your average person thinks only an idiot would pass up this gravy train and starts loading up on BBs - not to sell, but to become the core of the kids' college fund. This only drives up demand more and the frenzy increases.

Eventually it becomes obvious there are enough BBs around to fill the Atlantic Ocean and when EVERY BB is supposedly rare, then none of them really are. Bubble bursts.

I know people who buy new issues from the US Mint, immediately flip them on ebay for a profit, then rebuy the same item 6-8 months later for less than it cost originally from the Mint, to add to their collection. I don't know how that continues to work when the people buying on ebay could just buy from the Mint directly for less.

You just reminded me of the Wii craze... And the Wii accessories. Gotta get it first to brag to your friends.

I did Magic the Gathering instead. Beanie Babies were for the girlies.

I never did get a black lotus. :(

I still do magic the gathering. 10,000 card lots for $100.00. My kids don't know the difference and it makes for a damn cheap christmas and birthday present!

Inherited a couple totes of them. Can't believe any still selling for significant money. Remember them doing crazy things like have some only offered to guest of a certain hotel brand and crap.

I would have been in middle school when they craze hit its peak. I had a friend that bought a whole bunch. He swore up and down that they'd be very valuable some day. Which is precisely why they're all worthless 20 years later. Things like that are only valuable if they're rare.

My friend was a bit odd though. Haven't seen him in years. Wonder if he turned out gay like we suspected. :p
