Anyone remember life without a computer?

we had a computer in the house since I was 4, but I never really used it...

I didn't start using the computer a lot until I was about 13, when I got my first computer and we got Cable internet a few weeks later ...

Yes. I got my first computer in 1990 at age 29. At night I used to read a lot or visit friends. In my spare time I'd practice guitar, go to see bands or movies, or sometimes just go to our local diner, sit and drink coffee and write. When I wanted to learn about something I'd spend an afternoon at the library or bookstore, or just hanging out with people who knew more about it than I did. It was nice and in a lot of ways healthier than the life I lead now.

But I didn't have any marketable skills and I couldn't find a career path that really interested me - until I discovered computers. Now I'm an IT admin and very happy with it.

hells yeah. pretty much everything before I was 14-15 was non-computer, if you don't count a Sega Master System or Coleco-Vision. We used to get b!tched @ for being inside if it was nice out, etc etc. Lots of long summers riding dirt bikes, exploring the countryside and generally being kids. great times!

No, not really. I have no memory of learning to read, learning to use a computer, or anything like that. It feels like I've always been doing those things, though presumably there muct have been a time when I didn't.

Agreed. We got a computer when I was 5...I remember us getting a computer, but I don't remember what it was like before that. That said, as a kid my main pastime was legos, not the computer. I played w/ the computer, but not as much as I did other stuff.

Let's see...my dad used to work for IBM in the 80's, and I have a vague memory of him bringing home our first computer (I had to have been 5 years old or less at the time). Oldskool monochrome monitor DOS goodness. 😀

I never was much of an "active" child really...I got hooked on the computer from a very early age. 😛 😱
