Local rummage had a box full of them for $0.50 each. Some were still unopened

Does anyone still play those? I'm not sure if you can even buy a new player for them anymore....???

My friend bought one when they first came out. Halfway through the movie he had to take the disc out and flip it over. Really lame.

YES. NO.

If I remember correctly even a tiny scratch can cause big headaches. Still played, but playback quality got REAL crappy with even a minor scratch (of course only for that part of hte movie). Compared to DVD's anyways.

Yes. A good friend of mine has one and still uses it.

I need to find Star Wars on Laserdisc some day and borrow his player.

Also, Ebay is a virtual boneyard of them.

Wow. I remember going to Suncoast Video a long time ago and they had a big selection of them. Then, with the advent of DVDs the next time I ventured in (I rarely visit because of their absurd prices), the laser discs were relegated to a small display. Lastly, they had all disappeared and there were shelves full of DVDs. It was interesting to observe the transistion of technology.

Were there any good titles, yellowfiero?

Nothing of real interest. I remember a Tom Hanks movie, and a couple obscure science fiction movies I'd never heard of.

A lot of science videos, etc., is still published on laserdisc, I'm told. Or at least one of the science teachers at the highschool I used to work for keeps acquiring laserdiscs somehow...

My grandmother had one in the early/mid 80s. Come to think of it, I'm wondering if it was a gift, I'm not sure I could see her buying that herself. I do remember watching Time Bandits, Superman, and Mighty Mouse on it over the following summers.

We used to rent them a bit. They were stupid ass machines and a ridiculously premature technology. I was home at Christmas and my dad still has his sony one in the basement. Sadly we only watched probably 15 movies on it before it was eventually unplugged. He did use it for a long time to play his CDs though. We still have twin peaks for it, and possibly floyd's the wall.

I won a LD player and 2 movies(wargames and chariots of fire) at a raffle. I could never get it to work though.

I used to work at a video store who stocked all the newest LaserDiscs... we had all these technophiles coming in wanting the latest and greatest. They were scary. I never had one, they were too expensive for me at the time.

I think my dad bought one of the first consumer units. Its a top loader; no drawer. Still works but we hardly use it. Nothing worthwhile to watch anyway (at least not in our collection). Kinda makes me wonder why he bought the thing since my parents hardly watch movies anyway.

I still have mine.

I bought it for the quality, but the fact that you BUY movies the same day they were released on VHS for rental.

I still have my copies of Clerks, Pulp Fiction, Billy Madison, Tommy Boy, etc..
