Anyone remember Guile's "Touch of Death"?

Anyone remember how to perform Guile's infamous "Touch of Death" from the original SF2? I downloaded SF2 for Mame and I would like to do it coz I was never able to back in the days.

Depends on which one you mean. I think you're probably talking about Guile's "Magic" throw. You do that by doing a sonic boom, but press roundhouse right before you press the punch button.

Most people refer to the touch of death as a 3-4 hit re-dizzy combo. Do touch of death, dizzy opponent, do touch of death again and your opponent is dead. All characters have at least one touch of death combo in that game I think. 🙂

Thanks Atom! I will try that.

Chinaman, I'm talking about the orginal Street Fighter 2, not Championship Edition or Hyper Fighting Edition. Guile was the dominant character in SF2. At the arcade where I used to play, if I was able to pick Guile I was absolutely unbeatable against everyone. The only guy that can beat me ocasionally was a very good Zangief player. Ken and Ryu were nothing compared to Guile. But times have changed and Guile kinda sucks in SF Alpha 3.

Wierd.. personally, I thought guile was one of the worst chars from SF2.

My fav is ryu or ken since nothing and i mean NOTHING could punch through a dragon uppercut

Dragon Uppercuts held the highest order in the original SF2. they even punch through Bison's torpedo and kicks.

hmm let's put your money where your mouth is 😀 How about you pick your guile...and i'll use my Dhalism. I've gotten into some verbal confrontations using my Dhalism at times..."why you gotta play like?" Nothing can beat a good dhalism player in the original SF2.

Most of the cheats with Guile were very tough to do. I own a full size SF2 and can only get the "statue" to work. You flash kick and punch at the same time. Its honestly pretty useless too. My friends and I have spent hours trying to do the other magic throws and stuff but none of us can get them to work. I would suspect most of them are made up.

those were real stuff..

but no one could beat ken or ryu.. cause their "all you ken~~"s were all powerful.. nothing could hit you while you were going up...

on the way down... thats a different story..~~

They did revise the game code a few times, so your copy may not have the original SF2 code.

He is one of the best players in World Warriors along with Guile. Surprisingly, if you talk to any of the top SF players, they'll probably say Ryu is easily one of the worst characters in the original Street Fighter 2.

Ryu or Ken the best in SF2 original? hahahahahahaha

No...not by a long shot.

They are the easiest to get pretty good with. And amongst a bunch of medium skill level players the Kens and Ryus are probably the best.

But they are not the best characters at all.

I dunno about trash talking
Dhalsim is hard to play correctly...but he can be devastating if you do know how to play him right.
My best was always Guile...and I met very few kens and ryus that could beat me. And all the best I knew were Guile users as well.

There Dragon Uppercut may be the highest in resolving hits order. But you just don't get hit by it...then scratch your ass for a bit while he's up there twirling like a flamer, and toss a boom or something at him while he's coming down.

It's been a long time since I played though...I probably lick monkey testicles now.

does anyone remember guile's, guile freeze? it was a glitch in the sf2 original arcade game. you would jump up, hit the person with whatever hit you wanted, after you hit the person, you would hit back and i believe the last kick button, then as soon as you pull that off, you would do a quick back forward motion like a sonic boom with fierce, and guile would freeze up.

Yes the Dragon punch is the most powerful move in the game but also the riskiest. If you miss or the punch is blocked you are a sitting duck. The risk is minimized if you use the jab version, but many Ryu and Ken players don't realize this and they stupidly always use the fierce version (the one that jumps all the way up). I've won many times just waiting for someone to hit me with the DP and then hitting them with a combo or just throwing them when they miss and fall down. My favorite thing to do is to throw them out of the air.

I agree with the guys that say Ken and Ryu certainly are not the best characters. After I mastered Guile, I never lost to anyone who used Ken/Ryu or any other character except for Zangief. I'd have to say if Guile is the best character then Zangief should be #2, but good Zangief players are rare.

As for Dhalsim, I've never played against anyone who was half-way decent with him. So maybe he is as good as gregshin claims, but I highly doubt it. All he's good for is the keep-away game and if you can get close he can't do anything.

Dhalsim was a great player. I used him for a long time because it was just so much fun. I mean, you walk up to a machine with a crowd of people and pick Dhalsim. Then, when you start whipping their @ss, they would get real upset...and fast. If you are playing right, you can go plenty of rounds and never get touched using Dhalsim.

I either used him or Chun Li. She was a great character to use unless you were playing someone real good. Most players can't handle the aerial assult she can put up. Maybe for a round, but once you start jumping all over place and striking at will, they fall.

If you find a SF2 machine, try playing with Dhalsim. It takes awhile to get his timing down b/c it's so different from the other characters. But, once you do, you can fight matchs where the other player never gets close enough to hit you.

Oops wrong game.

I forget the touch of death, but I'll NEVER forget Eddie Honda's "Thousand-handed bitchslap"

I love to cheese in SF. A few years back when the Arcade scene didn't suck ass, Street Fighter was THE game to play. People would bitch so much and even get into physical confrontations over the game, especially when you cheesed. For example, you are ken/ryu and you do a jumping light punch on the guy and after it connects, you throw them. Do this constantly and you win! Cheap and effective.

Damn, I can remember playing this game for hours with my coworkers at the local Circle K....

Actually he has the 2nd longest reach in the game for throws next to zangief...playing dhalsim is very boring...but that is the only way you can beat a good guile player. If people got too close to me i would give the knuckle sandwich or a nice throw...it's all about oooga fire, then kick, then oooga fire and then grab 😉

invisible throws were cheap as hell!!
remember the handcuffs? where they're stuck to you and the only way out is invisble throw? if you dont do it, the game freezes?
drunken monkey, that's what that move was called, where you're stuck in a trance "drinking" something, ehaeheah
what is the touch of death? guessin it be the killer combo 😛

i remember all those stupid rumors/idioms like:

guile had a gun in his boot
chun li could throw her bracelet
guile was actually "General Uile" <~~~~ wtf?!
and who could forget.... sheng long!!!!!

yeap, they revised the game a lot so you cant do invisible throw/other stuff, like the 10 round limit (changed it to 4)

memorieeeeeeeees

Invisible throw is Sonic boom then push back on stick, plus roundhouse a fraction of a second before fierce punch.
Prison hold is Sonic kick with medium punch fraction of a second before medium kick. Only works on some machines though. Like the first edition. It was fixed in later updates.
