Anyone regularly wear a bullet/knife proof vest?

I was watching a show on TV about the technology behind bullet proof vests, and they said that anyone withut a criminal past (who also pass a background check) are allowed to purchase civilian bullet proof vests, and anyone can by a knife proof vest. This got me thinking. Does anyone (other than cops here) wear a bullet/knife proof vest regularly? If so, why?

You'd have to be one paranoid mofo to wear a bullet proof vest all the time. ;)

I don't imagine they're very comfortable.

Besides.... What if you get shot in the head?

:D

The newer bulletproof vests are very lightweight and fit under clothes better than the old plate models. They're still not the ultimate in comfort though.

Used to when I worked in a "Big City" as a Paramedic. Working in a smaller setting, so I leave it at home.

trust me, if someone wants you dead, an armored car, bullet proof vest, and armed guard probably isn't going to help unless the secret service is watching your 6.

But hey imagine wearing one of those around campus. lol.

I live in Canada, all I walk around with is a bow and arrow, rattle snake anti-venom, and a seal club. :p ;)

This reminds me of the last King of the Hill where Dale wore armor everywhere he went.

I was issued a bullet/Knife proof vest when I was a member of a Tactical Response Team for a State Corrections Department. I only wore my vest when we were called out. I never wore it to Wal-Mart.

I'm confused by your last statement. americangigolo said he wore one, and I wanted to know why if he cared to share.

Knife prood vest?

Yes. They have been around since the middle ages (ever hear of chainmail? It's small rings of metal that form a mesh and block sharp objects).
