I was wondering if any one recently bought a EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX and had the below noise problem per links?

This card only comes with a VGA replacement only warranty from NE so do to the below I came across I am thinking I might not go with this card and just refuse delivery. Guys have been rma'ing them only to get another card with the same noise problem. It seems to be due to the cooling fins possibly. I am going to call NE tomorrow to see if this is only a replacement for a EVGA or can I pick different brand video card if I have this problem. If they say only a EVGA brand only I am going to refuse this card after going though all the post at the below links.

I have that card and haven't had that issue, but I have seen others mention problems with fan rattle at some other boards. I think the way to go would be just refuse delivery and perhaps try with another retailer? I think amazon has the same card at the same price, and their return policy is way way better if you have issues with any purchased GPU. They will cover your RMA return shipping (amazon, that is) as long as your account is in good standing. Amazon is definitely preferred over newegg where possible if both have stock IMO.

If you accept delivery or open the box you'll be stuck with it. Which isn't good because while EVGA will take care of you, you still have to pay return shipping and what not. Whereas if you refuse delivery, you don't pay anything additional and just wait for a refund from newegg.

I am just going to refuse it after going though all the post seems due to the loose, weak or vibrating cooling fins. EVGA tried a BIOS fix for this problem with a fan profile but guys still have the problem some guys are on there 2nd or 3rd card and reman at that.

Newegg offers that too. I would say they are even better in some cases as they don't charge tax which amounts to huge savings. And a huge plus too is that they offer free shipping on products under 10 bucks. I get my package like in two or so days with free shipping also.

My first 780 GHz card had low and high pitch coil whine as well as a low RPM fan clicking noise.

Newegg sent a pre-paid label, and did an advance RMA without charging twice with next day newegg to increase the chances I'd get it before Christmas.

I guess my point is no matter what card you pick there is a chance there will be something wrong with it, but take comfort in knowing Newegg CS will take care of you.

When I went though the posts on those links its not coil whine, its loose, weak vibrating cooling fins at different RPMs. One guy took it a part found the problem (loose fins) used tape. I don't want to do a fix like that for the money I am paying imo and I don't want to also have to go though 2 or 3 cards to get a good one.

All of their items have different return policies, and many items cannot be returned for refund if you accept them. The SC ACX happens to be non refundable if you accept it. That's the point i'm making. If the OP accepts it, he's stuck with it forever. If he decides he doesn't like the SC ACX, well that's too bad. He's stuck with it and cannot get a refund. Amazon differs in this respect. They will refund you no matter what.

Replacement only return policy. Read the terms. If you look at the GTX 780 cards, most of them are replacement only return policy. Therefore if you want a refund they will not give you a refund, not unless you refuse the box upon delivery attempt. Amazon is just much more flexible if you decide...to go with a different brand or something. Whereas most GTX 780 cards are replacement only at newegg with no refund option. Sure he can get RMA service on it. It will take a while. Amazon has cross shipped items for me before with free next day shipping. Newegg generally does not go the extra mile like that, even if they cover the shipping for an RMA replacement.

The only reason I mention this is because the OP mentioned with potentially wanting a different brand if something goes wrong. Newegg will not allow that. Not with a replacement only return policy on the item. If that doesn't matter to him, if he's 100% sure the SC ACX is his choice, then that may not matter.

I do have the problem to a certain degree. There are two main problems, actually:

(1) the minimum RPM, 39%, on the ACX is far too high. It's running at 1293rpm right now even though it's at 27C, for instance. That means the fans certainly make more noise at idle than a single blower fan at 30%.

(2) there is a rattle that occurs from time to time, either at idle or when the fans are changing rpm. It's worst when there is rapid fluctuation of the fan speed. In games, it's not a problem because it's usually locked at relatively high RPM, at least once it gets heated up.

I've already spoken to EVGA about this, and they'll RMA it (I'd pay shipping). In all honesty, the rattling has decreased a lot since I bought it, so I'm just going to wait on it.

I'd personally suggest you accept delivery. Just try it out, and if it rattles, call up EVGA. They'll help you out. I have a feeling that the problem is the use of ball bearings, which are more durable than sleeve bearings, but not actually quieter. I have a hard time believing its rattling fins, because then it would be worse at higher RPM, but it's actually never an issue at high RPMs.
