Anyone read Wheel of Time?

glen

Lifer
Folks seem to like it, so I started reading it.
Some of ti is confusing, so if I can PM folks when I get stuck or AIM you that would help me alot.
Thanks.

I read it. Reading it for the third time right now, actually. Whenever I finish it, I just start over. I don't sit down for hours and hours and read (unless it's a new book), but a few minutes here and there and I get it done eventually.

If you ever do get confused, though, gimme a yell. I might be a little rusty on it since it's been a while since I've read some of the books, but I might be able to help.

There is a pretty encompassing W.O.T. FAQ somewhere (google it) .... it's the kind of thing necessary when you have a series of 10 books, each around 700-800 pages. Frankly I bet you Robert Jordan has a huge wall that is the history of the WOT books ..... so that he can figure out where each of his characters is, and who is dead, and who is alive, and who was dead but is now alive in a different body.

I am moving to Charleston for medical school, and someoen named Robert Jordan lives near the school. If I see him, I will ask him about it.

God, just do me a favor and stop after the sixth book. It's all downhill from there. And I LOVED the series a few years ago, but now I can't even bring myself to read the latest book (despite having bought it the day it came out; old habits and all that).

Bleh. Fox should have a news special called When Mediocre Writers Go BAD.

Might be him... RJ does live in Charleston.

After about 5 books, read first chapter, middle chapter and last chapter. Nothing else is relevant. He is just milking us for money.

Go for A Song of Ice and Fire series.
A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
*Soon* A Feast for crows

It's a good series but like most people say the last books have been a let-down. I think it has devolved to men whining about women and women whining about men 🙂

LOL!! Better than the Sword of Truth series. We have a Republician spouting Ayn Rand to Hippies and Communists.

I'm reading it on the recommendation of some friends; I'm on the 8th book right now. I like the writing style but the "action" scenes are indeed few and far between. I still like it, but it's not holding my attention like the first few books did.

WOT has gotten too long, IMHO. I'll stick with it to the end, but the last couple of books definitely dragged on way too much.

Feel free to PM me if you like. I would also highly recommend checking out the WOT FAQ. Just Google for it. Very informative site that covers all the books up to Book 9 (Winter's Heart). Crossroads of Twilight (Book 10) is supposed to be added to it eventually. Be careful, though. The FAQ contains serious spoilers.

Ugggghhh....don't even get me started on the steaming pile of dung known as "Sword of Truth". Goodkind needs to take some remedial English classes and stop cribbing material from WOT. I read up to Temple of the Break Winds before I gave up on him.

Soon? April 2004 is the expected publication date. 🙁

I gotta say I'm definitely on the edge of my seat waiting for it, though. Highly recommended to serious fantasy lovers.

Well, Jordan did say it was originally going to end at book 9 if I recall. Then he got like an 8 figure advance from his publishers. Now he's saying it'll all be over in book 12.

I say he hits book 15 before the fan backlash is finally too much. Anyone else want to voice their opinion on it?

What I wanted to see happen, was for him to finish at around 8 or 9, and then let other writers take a crack at it... It would have been nice to get different viewpoints of the same events... perhaps from the hapless Trolloc who just can't bring himself to hurt bunnies... or the Littlest Forsaken, who travels in disguise, and brings joy and happiness to all the land... Or Tales from the StoneKeeper, a collection of the Tairen Housekeepers Guildmembers who keep Callandor spotless...

OK, so maybe I'm being a little sarcastic, but Book 10 was the first book where I actually got pissed off reading it... I mean come on, nothing... nothing, Perrin and Faile.,.. nothing, then wham!, the end (won't spoil what happened).... I damn near tossed the book across the room..
