Hey, anyone who has read Animal Farm, think you could explain the last sentence of the book?

<< The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which >>

Dave Mathews wrote a song (titled 'Typical Situation') based around this quote.

Thanks

We are all animals in a sense. And, he is making a comparison between humans and animals, hinting this happens in everyday life for what happened in the book.

The whole point of this book is that power corrupts. The animals wanted to create their "Utopia" free from the subjugation of the humans. When the pigs took over control of the animal society they slowly turned into the humans that they replaced.

I think it means that the pigs, who lead the idealistic revolution against the oppresive humans, themselves replaced the humans as the oppressors. The whole book is a commentary on communism, and a parallel to Russia. I think that's right.

<< Um, I thought Animal Farm was about Russia and its corrupt leaders (the pigs symbolized the leaders) >>

That's right. The book is a commentary on communism, the Humans represent capitalists that use the animals for whatever they need to make money, and when the pigs (communist leaders) rise up to get rid of the humans, they say that all animals will be free and equal, but in reality it's just the pigs leading them all now instead of the humans.

That's my opinion on it anyways, I could be wrong.
