I was tempted when it first came out but 'mixed reviews' on the sale put me off.

What kind of builder games are you looking for?

It might just be in my head, but I really loved playing the old Railroad tycoon games and Transportation Tycoon games. You got a sense of accomplishment building your company from nothing into a juggernaut. Putting the AI to shame and building engineering marvels. Yeah, and they are just games :)

Maybe it's because they were simple in design, but open ended. I've played all the new Civ games and can't really get into them. Played Cities in Motion, Banished, etc and they don't really hold my attention. The most recent builder I've put any amount of hours into is Prison Architect.

Watching this thread. I loved Transport Tycoon back in the day. I'd spend countless hours building my empire up and running the competition into the ground,.. when my brother would get in the game and delete it all thinking it was his game save. :) This looks just like it except updated, and I'd love to go back to that. Just don't want to spend $25 or $30 to find out its not what it appears to be. To bad they don't have a demo.

You'd think steam would have a way to leverage this for people. Like free leased keys that allow the game to launch for 3 days or something and can't retain save data, or delete save data after 3 days.

If you like PA, you might like RimWorld. Still in alpha (a la PA) but very moddable, active modding community, voted #2 in Top 100 of 2014 in the IndieDB vote and has a 95% identical art style (RimWorld dev self confessed sucked at graphics, made it as a placeholder of sorts, PA dev approved so they've stuck).
