Anyone Playing Quake Live?

I've always been UT fan, but I couldn't resist trying Quake Live especially since it's free. I'm enjoying the game. The retro graphics don't bother me. I'm really enjoying the game, even with the preset weapons which I think the dev team should eliminate.

My question is can I give orders to my bot teammates? I like to play CTF offline and I would like to give orders to my bots. You can give orders in UT. I don't know if you can do the same in Quake. I've looked online but I can't find a solution.

Thanks.

I did, until the loadout update. No, you can't give orders.

Yea, giving people rocket launchers at the beginning at the match means a lot of spamming. Complete bullsh*t. I hope Epic doesn't go this route when they release the new UT.

You can't give orders? That's sucks. None of my bot teammates likes to play defense. I'd like to give my bots orders like you can in UT. Oh well, maybe I was asking expecting too much.

The last time I used bots in Quake Live they were just terrible, they play nothing like humans. The bots in the UT series are a lot better, so with Quake I would just suggest playing online.

Got it. Thanks.
It's possible the bots have been updated since I played last, it's been over a year I think.

If you do play online, it helps to get the hang of strafe, and rocket jumping, it's pretty much required. Of course rocket jumping is a lot more prominent in Clan Arena since there is no self damage in that mode.

bots have been terrible since Q3A.

i have to say, i enjoy playing TDM after the new loadouts update. CA is unchanged, if not for the LG having been brought down to 6 instead of 7. FFA is unplayable. (i dont know about Duel because i dont play it)

the item timers benefit everyone so it's not drama. what is really dramatic is the influx of absolutely horrible players (today some guy joined a max difficulty server and ended with 1.6% THATS ONE POINT SIX PERCENT accuracy) with **REMOVED** you attitude who disrespect teh community and absolutely ruin any and all games.

i play EU, my IGN is GnGBnG

although i'm playing Survarium just now, but not sure how long that will last.

I play Quake Live as well. I used to play all the time until AT&T ruined my network routes which killed the lag in game....

I have recently switched to TWC and my ping and lag is much better now.

I will say that you should not play bots... it will make you pickup bad habits that make you not play well online. the only time I play bots is when I want to hone my LG and Rail gun.

Well that's what happens when they dumbed down the game so they can make more money.

more money, but not in the long run.

QL has two problems that are evident; one, its hard. since it was designed from the ground up as a e-sport, a new player has to learn a great deal before they can enjoy the game.
Before this latest update, there was a tight community; you played by the rules, which meant no joining games with balanced number of players (i.e. 3v3), no starting games without a shuffle, no laggers, no joining games outside your tier(skill rank).

Now, people, kids mostly, ignore these etiquette rules and thus every game is unbalanced, often to the point where one new player can totally destroy the score of a far superior team.

These kids are the ones that "play for fun"; they are still at that point in their life where "omg the plasma gun is so cool". The visual effects capture them, and they imagine more gameplay than they actually accomplish.

I get it that games were designed for that, but not Quake. This is the difference between play-fighting and MMA, they are so far apart they don't even belong in the same category.

And second thing, quake is ugly. It both looks and plays dreadful; people today are used to much more intuitive games, and quake just disappoints on all aspects.
In order to succeed in quake, you need to learn everything anew; the ridiculous physics, how to aim guns which are slower than player models, and how to abuse what is essentially a series of bugs in the movement system.

If someone, five years ago, showed me a demo of my own gameplay today, it would have made me puke; the screen shaking constantly dude to the constant dodging, the mouse movements to speedup strafejump, and the ridiculous models flying everywhere is enough to give anyone motion sickness. If i hadn't been dead broke for those 2 years i would not have stuck with quake, which, by the way, is going out.

There are far better games than QL out there .. some are F2P as well.
