I used to years ago.
I want to get back into it.
I am sure technology has changed.
Are there any particular discs which are really great?

As a kid we did it ghetto in the park, made up our own course using tree trunks and garbage cans, standard 119G disk.
I have messed around once on a nice course here.
Once again, I did not have a set of proper discs or rules or even time for 9 holes. I'd like to get into it.

Eh...it really depends on your throwing style. I can't do that crazy sidearm action that some guys can do. With that they can use the long range drivers and get a good 100 yards+ of distance.

I just stick to a plain old mid range driver/all purpose disk and make safe approaches. I then switch out to a softer putter that I can drop into the pin. I will also stick to the softer putter when throwing on slopes since it doesn't have the tendency to turn over and roll like the harder drivers do.

Disc Craft and Innova are the two big names in disc manf.

I never really got that caught up in the hobby like the guys that have a bag full of 20 different disk types. I just carry my midrange and putter around and I can par just about any hole out there with the exception of the *REALLY* long ones (400+ feet)

There's no wonder product out there. Just find a comfortable disk that fits your throwing style and practice.

just buy the combo/variety pack at a local sports authority or something.
usually comes in a set of 3: driver, all-purpose, and putter.
they're usually decent discs~

IMO, its personal preference. I have about 12 discs that I use for certain shots and certain situations. Resist the temptation to try lots of different discs. Concentrate on learning to throw only one disc until you develop a feel for throwing golf discs. Some excellent disc choices for new players are: Aero, Leopard, Polecat, Cobra, Stingray, Archangel and Sidewinder.

When and if you buy online, stay the hell away from sun king discs. Long story, but they are lowlifes and you will have a hassle with them.

It's golf...played with a frisbee(aka disc). The courses are usually set up in parks and are 9-18 holes. Ranging anywhere from 100-500+ feet in length per hole. Each hole has a par just like real golf.

Dont worry about that for now.
Well, I used to play a good bit.
I have a couple of friends who want to start, and as I remeber, the shark is the best all around disc. I think we could each get one, and be perfectly happy ussing just that one disc. I was just wonderign about the weight - should I go light or heavy or does it matter? I think it does. If I remember, hard throwers need a slighly heavier disc, and lighter throwers need a lower weight. The great thing about the shark is that it flies stright, but I think if we are out of our optimal weigh ranger for our throw speed, it will not fly nearly as straight.

Heavier disks are more stable at higher speeds, and less stable at lower speeds. They tend to carry further too...and roll further if they hit the ground wrong.

...generally speaking.

And the Beast for driving ;)

Same here. If I could put together a decent throw, maybe equipment would help. I already made that mistake by buying a $200 bowling ball. Skill and technique first, then good equipment.

Strangely enough, my best disc was an overstable midrange that flew in a w shape. I could nail the basket from 25+ yards out. Unfortunately, that disc decided to catch an updraft and flew far, far into a forest :(

Honestly, I don't think it's changed all that much in the 10 years or so I've been playing.

I prefer Innova, but Discraft is fine also.
