Anyone play DAoC? Can a new player start this late into it?

I was thinking about trying it out since it is only $20 to buy in the store..

Is it worth it?

You would be better off getting Star Wars Galaxies. It is by far the most popular MMORPG right now and probably for a while. DOAC is outdated and boring, IMO.

LOL, SWG is collapsing on itself, they break the game more with every patch, and what used to be the most heavily populated servers are now ghost towns.

No, I wouldn't suggest trying to play DAoC now. Everyone on the game is high level, and it's hard to level without being in a group. And there really aren't many people to group with below level 20. Plus it isn't fun.

I would recommend you wait for Horizons: Empire of Istaria which is due out in December, or World of Warcraft, although I am not sure when WoW is coming out.

I still play DAoC and have many high level chars. I still see low level people running around. I dont think you would have a problem getting a group and getting to be a higher level char easily. Also getting to level 20 is pretty easy and most people solo to that level anyway. Give it try and see if you like it. Your first month is free anyway. My only advice to you is to play on one of the more highly populated servers. The better your chance to get a good group and some help.

Also, don't play a Midgard toon. Pick either Albion or Hibernia, those two seem to be Mythic's favored children.

Find a more productive hobby.

MMORPG's are a big waste of time, i played Eversmack and DAoC for awhile and they really just suck up all your freetime and give little in return.

I would play one if you could actually play without 10 other people helping you. If you play any of them you will find that its boring to sit and fight the same monster over and over again but EVERYONE else in the game only wants to do that.

Oh and if you go away for a week you will come back and have to find new friends because they all leveled up while you were gone.

Well it depends on what you find fun in a game. Does it have to be mmorpg? I'll admit, they are fun and addicting, but there are other RPG's. Do you like hack and slash? Teamwork? PvP? FPS? Have a certain amount you'd like to spend?

You've got alot of choices out there.

Everquest.
Shadowbane.
Starwars.
Horizons.
Final Fantasy XI
Planetside.
Neocron.

Just the big ones there.

The list goes on and on really. I managed to play DAoC for about a month before I just quit. That was about a month ago. So I know from experience. Unless you know alot of high level people who can powerlevel you, grouping is going to be a bitch. I'd say the average level of people that I found on the game was about 40, and that was on the Bors and Tristan servers. The graphics are nice, but the scenery gets old fast. But it all depends on what you want from a game.

Roll a Ncero and you can hit 50 in a couple weeks SOLO

/play time on my necro at 50 was 4days 3hours 45mins.

My first 50, a bm took 40DAYS /played

So I could level a necro to 50 in 1/10th the time.

half the fun of those games is killing each other :)

FFXI is PVE only, and will have PVP non-PK style january, lol.

How can you have non-pk PVP?
