A group of co-workers and I just started a new D&D campaign playing the latest 3rd edition rules. It's a bit different from the complex and constraining 2nd edition world, but I think I like it. I appreciate the application of skills and feats; it allows your character to assume a certain personality pretty easily. I play an Elf Ranger and with his high dexterity score of 18, I've picked and successfully use a few Rogue-centric skills like Hide, Move Silently and Spot. My character feels like an offensive force, as well, because Rangers wearing light or no armor can have two attacks per round without a two-weapon penalty. The dexterity bonus makes my character deadly with a ranged weapon.
It's also about time that D&D uses an armor class system whose points go up as you gain protection. No more THAC0!
We just started playing 2 weeks ago, so I'm getting back into the groove of roleplaying and learning the rules better. It's funny that the players in our campaign are all in their mid-20s thru early-30s. I don't think kids today really care for roleplaying...is it too 70s for them? I love D&D...it's a great time-burner and an escape from the real world.
