Anyone play airsoft?

I saw someone posted about their new airsoft gun and it got me interested in it. Does anyone play? What are some good sites to go to about it? What guns are good for a beginner and what equipment do you need to play?

Airsoft is mostly fun if you can get a group to get intersted. Its cool to have a replica that actually fires and all, but some ppl get bored if they can't shoot more than cans. It can also get pretty expensive (as with all hobbies) if you really get into it. If you like tinkering with stuff then it might be for u.

Some sites:
SquadX
arnies airsoft

Airsoft seems to be pretty damn popular in the UK and such, but is slowly getting more and more popular in the US, which perfers paintball for whatever reason. (which is way more expensive, as air and paint usualy cost $80 per game). With airsoft and a electric rifle (AEG-automatic electric gun) u really only have to buy bbs, about $20 for 5000. Most AEGs are made by Tokyo Marui, u really can't go wrong with those. They are about $300 per rifle. They have many MP5, M4, AUG, G3 variants. They all perform about the same, about 300fps. Get your most favorate looking gun. If you want more power u have to upgrade yourself, which would usually cost about $100-$200. These usally all come from Japan, which increases the price, but exchange rates are pretty good now so its not too bad.

Most ppl order from HK shops online. There are also domestic shops too, but generally expensive. Some good domestic one are atlantaairsoft, and airsoft128 (don't know how good they are, but pretty cheap and they ebay a lot).

I like to collect pistols also. There are tons and they are all gas. They have electic pistols but they suck. Generally pistols are for display and sidearm. You get about 25-50 shots and u have to buy gas ( i usualy just buy sams club air duster gas). Just post more questions if you have any!

I play. Some good sites to go to about it is, http://www.airsoftzone.com/ (Their server is down so a temporary one is up here, http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk, http://www.airsoftnetwork.com/, http://www.airsoftplayers.com/, http://www.floridaairsoft.com/.

Spring guns are not good, the only spring guns you should ever get are probably good high quality snipers rifles made by Maruzen, Classic Army, PDI, or Sun Project. Auto Electric Guns are the way to go (AEGs). The brand to go with is Tokyo Marui, Classic Army, or Airsoft Elite. Good gas pistols are made by Western Arms, KSC, Maruzen, Marushin, or Tokyo Marui. KWC and KJW (KJ works) are cheap taiwanese clones of the high quality Japanese ones. Some equipment you definitely need is a gun and BBs and whatever source of power your gun needs (battery or gas). You also definitely need protection such as a Paintball mask or a goggle that meets ANSI 87.3 1989 specifications. Other option items would be BDU (Battle dress uniforms), FRS radios, camoflague, and other war stuff.

edit: Get your guns from places like http://www.wargameclub.com/WGC_Shop/, http://www.dentrinityshop.com/, http://www.uncompany.com/, http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/, orhttp://www.airsoftclub.com/

I was looking at getting an MP5 Navy, an AK47, or a M4. Are they all pretty much equal? What are some of the HK stores you were talking about? Thanks for all the info 🙂

The internal gearbox is pretty much the same except the AK has a Version 3 gearbox while the mp3 and the m4 have a version 2, the difference is just the shape of the gearbox to adapt into the gun. The mp5 also has a shorter barrel then the AK and the M4. All the stores listed in my previous post are based from HK.

😀

looking into buying one of the M4s, but the shipping method seems pretty intense. 80$ to start, then they say that they have to dis-assemble it and send it in different packeges and that it "usually" gets through customs. What the hell?

My friend is crazy about that sh!t, he's got the welts to prove it. I think it's pretty dumb. In paintball you can at least see if you were shot.

Sure you can see when you get it... with the big welts and paint mashed into a nice bloody wound. When you're playing @ 300fps. 🙂

Btw, Airsoft doesn't hurt as much as paintball. But... Airsoft can be more fun than paintball. They are different, and I like them for different reasons. The inaccuracies of a paintball gun is what makes it so fun.

Its one of the only ways I can get one. (Canadian)
And getting them over the border is DIFFICULT.

IIRC, Airsoft guns are illegal in Canuckistan. I read somewhere you aren't allowed to own a replica of any gun without a nice honking orange tip.
