well i'm making a huge upgrade. i am upgrading my computer with an athlon 64 3200+, a k7n2 delta 2 mobo, a radeon x1950 pro, and 2GB of mushkin good ol DDR RAM to a intel e2200 dual-core processor, a gigabyte GA-P35-S3G mobo, a XFX geforce 8400 GS, and a 2GB stick of g-skill DDR2 800 RAM. the reason why i was so far behind (basically a whole generation of everything behind) was because i got a ps3 and just kinda lost my focus on my old desktop computer. i never used it for months. then one day i started to realize how much i missed working on my desktop computer, upgraded it, and being into computers. computers are just so much better than consoles. with a console u buy it, and then you have to wait 7 years for the next one to come out and u can't even upgrade it or anything. computers are always ahead of consoles. a powerful computer in my opinion, is the best gaming machine, better than any old playstation. but anywase anyone planning on making some big upgrades soon? if so what is it?

I was toying with the idea of switching to Nehalem in October or so but I don't think I'll have the cash for a new motherboard, DDR3 and a CPU as well as a few other things I'd like to upgrade. I think I'll maybe get myself an Antec P182 in september after I get paid and save up my cash for either early december on january, then get myself an ATI 4870, WD 640GB HD, and take another look at how expensive a Nehalem mobo/cpu/RAM combo would be.

An 8400GS is going to be severely underpowered for gaming. If you're on a tight budget, at least get one of the 8600GTs that's $50-60 after rebate, but even that's pretty weak. As affordable as good GPUs are right now, there's no reason to go lower than an 8800GT unless you have to, and the 4850 is even better.

Edit: And to answer your original question, I just built my system in December so any real upgrade is a while off. I put an Accelero on my 8800GT last month though.

yeah i know the 8400 GS is temporary. i can't afford to buy anything better right now because i just baught a new mobo, cpu, and RAM.

I "accidentally" picked up three antec tri-cools, 2GB of memory, and some heatsinks from Fry's...

Yeah, same here, i was checkin out the 4870's, noticed the Q9650 was out, and bumped the submit order button, opps 😀

I think I would wait a while for DDR3 memory to come down in price before I ever got the nehal.

You're making it sound like an STD.

"Dude, are you ok?"

"I got the nehal."

"Ouch. I told you to be careful..."
