Anyone pick locks?

A guy I work with used to be a locksmith and we've been messing around with a tension bar and a rake type pick. The lock on my desk drawer was difficult. I could never lock/unlock it, but the locks on our Dell servers were easy. 😀

I have had a lock pick set since I was about 10. I got it at a gun show. 😀

I can pick almost any cylinder/tumbler lock, and a few double sided tumbler locks (car doors). If it is a padlock, consider it opened in under 1 min.

I have this Southord Keychain.

It is very handy, even though I rarely use it. It is fun to play with when I am bored. I have a collection of over 25 padlocks, of all different makes and models. The only one that I cannot get into in under 1 min. is a Brinks lock, that says on the package "Pick Proof". It is so tight and skinny that I can barely get the rake in. I can get into it, but it takes about 20 min. and I have to go each individual pin, each taking about 5 min.

No, but I used to be able to open those old bike locks. You know the locks that were either a cable or a chain and had the rotating 3 or 4 numbers on them for the combination? Very easy to open.

The one kind of padlock my boss and former locksmith co-worker couldn't open without a struggle was one made by Best, IIRC.

I see some of the "jacknife" lockpick sets that fit on a keyring. Some sites say this is the perfect place to keep them...

I used to be quite good at it when I was a kid.

I was more impressed with the ability of a guy I bought a boat from to open a lock. (the trailer had a lock on the hitch, he couldn't find the key). He went into his garage, got a hammer and a cold chisel, said "you hit these ones right here" - I was figuring that "this idiot actually thinks he can pop a lock open with one blow" - he looks like a banker or something. Well, it wasn't a blow. It was slightly more than a tap, and the lock popped open. I was impressed to say the least. His comment: "You learn these things when you grow up in Philly"
