I want to buy this case for a machine I'm planning to build and have a question about the case fans... The new (3rd) revision of this case has a 120mm case fan in the front, a case fan on the side of the case on the motherboard side, and two fans in the back, on the hard-drive side of the case... Are these 3 fans (1 side fan and 2 rear fans) 90mm fans, or are they 92mm fans? Half of the places where I see this case for sale say it's a 92mm fan, and half of them list is as a 90mm fan. The manufacturer website states they are 90mm, but then if you look at the mechanical diagram of the case on the same website, it lists them as 80mm fans, which is obviously not right...

So, can anyone who owns this case say for sure if they're 90's or 92's..?

92mm or 90mm it doesnt matter 90mm will fit in 92mm holes and vice versa. The actual size of the fan is 92mm but alot of companies consider it to be 90mm, maybe they use shorter blades? Doesnt matter as long at all both will fit

I bought that case in spring of 2001 and love it...I have a KT7-RAID w/ Athlon 1.0Ghz, 2 80gb drives and a 45gb and a 1.2 GB...the fans are 92mm front, with now rear fans on the MB side...on the disk side i have the 2 80mm fans behind the drives and no fans up front (pluss the 375w PSU fans)...my system/CPU temps are 31/33 idle and 34/50 with very hard use...

It is a great case and stylish to boot...what are they going for now?

the new fan sizes sound very good with the hotter MB and such...wish the would add just a touch more space between the door and front of the drive bays, and maybe add a removeable MB panel...

otherwise think about adding a fan controller to throttle down thefan volume, and you will have a great case.

Oh, and ditto on the90/92 thing mentioned earlier.

Thanks for the replies... It sounds like you have the rev2 of that case... I own a rev1 which I bought back in '99... Back then it only had 4 exposed 5.25 bays in front. The one I'm looking at getting now is the rev3 case, which has 6 exposed 5.25's, 2 exposed 3.5's and 8 hidden 3.5's... plus it now has the fan next to the proc which is a good thing. I'm glad I waited on this one and skipped having to dremel a fan hole through that 1.2mm steel... I have to say, this is probably one of the best computer cases I have ever seen or used. The thing is built like a sherman tank. My plan is this:

Aopen AX4SPE-Max Springdale
Pentium 4 / 2.4CGHz
CORSAIR XMS 256MB PC-2700LLPT (x2)
ALBATRON GeForce 4 TI4680P TURBO 128Mb AGP 8x
ST-Audio DSP-Media 7.1 (or one of the M-Audio series.. perhaps the Revolution 7.1, the Delta 410 or the Delta DiO 2496)
Thermaltake W0013 Silent Purepower 480W
NEC 1300A DVD-R/RW +R/RW
storage to be determined, but most likely 3-4 HDD's in the 200Mb range each...

A few follow-up questions... Do you think a 480 Watt PSU is overkill...? Would I be safe with a 420 instead? Also, any better recommendations for a video card... I should say that I really couldn't care less about game performance for this machine. This machine will be used for games *maybe* 1% of the time. Just need something solid for video editing and rendering, but above all I need a crisp and clear picture, and preferably under $150... Any suggestions...?

[edit: oh, you asked about the price of the case... It goes for around $150 now w/o PSU... ]

i just got my v3 yesterday.

theres a 120mm in front, a 92 on the side, and 2 92's in the drive chamber

i have a p4 2.4@3.1 stock voltage
abit ic7-g
1gb hyperx pc3500 DCDDR
Radeon 9800 Pro @ 420/750
36gb 10k Rpm Raptor
(3x) 120gb 8mb Cache WD's
(2x) Sony 52xcdrw's
Sony 16x DVD Drive
Audigy 2

right now its aircooled, but not for long

i have in the mail:

Dtek WW Waterblock
DD Maze 4 GPU Block
DD Z-Chip (my chipset cooler fan failed... so hey, why not)
2x Radiators (one is a 2x120mm for the front of the case, the other a 1x120 for under the hard drives and on top of the power supply.
Ehiem 1250
Bay Res... to sit in the top bay
1/2 Tubing (Clearflex 60)

that will all be here by next week, so i can get started on fitting things. I know everything will fit, but its gonna be real tight, and i'm probably gonna have to do some cutting of the motherboard tray. It would be nice if all the new boards werent so LONG.

so judging by all that, how do you guys think i should run the plumbing, in real detail... because i just keep running different setups through my head, and i think they'll work, but i'm not sure. BTW: I'm aiming to mount the pump between the back of the cdrw and the PSU, i think it'll just fit, but i'll have to wait and see.

In the end, i'm looking for at least 3.4 out of the cpu, and still be able to have nice temps. I dont think that's too bad of a challenge do you?

I definately want to hear updates and see pictures on how that goes When i build the next PC it will almost definately be a yeon yang cube...only getting better

you might think about adding a fan controller and a frontx unit (www.frontx.com - now in black)

BTW..there shouldn't beany issue running a thermalright SKL900A in the YY cube, right?

i see no reason why the slk900 wouldnt work in the yy cube, there's a lot of room, except in clearance between the left side case door and the "top" of the video card, due to the case configuration and size constraints.

So do you guys think a 400W PSU would be sufficient for the spec list I listed above, or do I really need a ~480 for this?

syf3r, i have just about the same stuff you do, but i have 3 optical drives and 4 HHD's. I have an enermax 431w and i'm fine.

my stuff (waterblocks and whatnot) are coming this week, so i hope to have it almost done by next weekend.

after talking to other people, i'm skeptical about using the 1250, as i'm running a system with a lot of head loss, so people have reccomended the mag3 or ma5 by danner. The pumps are cheaper, but i'm still waiting to figure out what i want to do.

Jutny,

Thanks for the info.. I think I'm probably going to go with something in the 410-430 range instead of a 480
