Anyone own the Sony E-Book Reader

hi ATOT,

so who among us owns the Sony eBook reader?

Frankly, the device intrigues me.

I was fiddling around with it in my local Borders and I was very impressed.

For the owners:

1. Can you import your own PDF's or DOC or TXT or RTF files?
2. When you buy ebooks from Sony's online store, are they yours to keep and use forever? Or is there DRM on it like iTunes/Rhapsody's media?

From what I heard it was pretty DRM heavy, but that may be hearsay...

There is a wikipedia article on it, but Wikipedia isn't loading for me ATM for some reason...

What's wrong with MS ebook reader on a PDA?

I've read a lot of books on my pda and I really enjoy it a lot.

But no, I've never had or tried the Sony. Personally, I hope it fails because of Sony's history of proprietary BS.

The one thing the e-reader has is digital paper as a display, so it is supposed to be easier on the eyes. That said, I agree with your wariness of sony.

It uses much less power and causes less eye strain. I've used MS Reader on my PPC for hours on end without a problem, though. Even used Word to read .txt files... not as pleasant 🙁

EDIT:
From wikipedia: DRM-free Text: BBeB Book (LRF), PDF, TXT, RTF, DOC (Must be converted to RTF by the bundled software, which, in turn, requires Microsoft Word to be installed on the PC.)

Not bad, I might actual consider getting one if the price drops by a bit.

If it sold for under $50.00 I might be interested but for $300 its not something I think I would ever get. The only way I would consider it is if the cost of the digital book was substantively less than the printed version.
