Anyone own or Owned a Volkswagen?

IF so how was it? Was it reliable? Drive well?ETC.

I am 16 and looking at getting a new car and I was looking at the 2003 Volkswagen Golf GL 4D Hatchback and wondering is it any good or trash?

I'm not sure if they're making the 1.8T Golf this year. It's not an option on the website. If the 2.0 is non turbo, I don't know if I'd buy one. I had to drive a rental jetta with the 2.0 engine and it sucked.

I have a 2002 Golf (TDI,GLS) and I love it. It's probably my favorite car to drive I've ever owned (better than honda civic, acura integra, SUVs, mitsu eclipse, and a few others).

So I highly recommend the TDI. Safe, good fuel economy, and sporty enough (no matter what brandon says). 😛
If you want a gas engine and can't get a 1.8T Golf (maybe get a year or two old one), get the GTI.

I have one and my wife has one. The cars are nice but I wouldn't recommend buying a VW. Their customer service sucks. If the car doesn't give you a problem, then you're golden. But, VW ranks towards the bottom of the charts for problems with their cars. We have both had numerous problems and it has been a headache to deal with VW. It is a known fact that corporate VW sucks and most of the dealers suck even more. Do a search for VW and you should come up with some interesting topics.

My mother had a late 80's Jetta, back when they were like riding in a tin can.
The seem to have gotten a lot nicer recently though

I currently own a 1990 VW Jetta, and soon will own (as long as everything works out) a 2001 VW Jetta that has 300hp to the wheels.

I had a 89 Jetta. Bought it in 90. Spent 9K on it and spent 11K in repairs two years later. One repair was my front axle breaking in half while driving in a snow storm. I was upset that night.

But that was a while ago.

There hasn't been a 1.8T Golf produced since 2001. 😉

As for the 2.0, it's the non-turbo version. The FSI 2.0L turbo engine arrives with the Mark V Golf/GTI that should arrive late next year. 🙂

If you want the most reliable VW, go with a TDI.

The engine is bulletproof, and gets amazing mileage. I currently own one, and wish I had one back when I was your age. The option for the diesel engine is a bit more expensive, but will pay for itself in the long run especially with fuel prices the way they are now.

In my area, the price of diesel is 30% less than gas. :Q

Well, at least they made them once upon a time, so I'm not completely losing my mind (I knew I had seen that 1.8T badge on the back of a non GTI Golf).

VW is a good choice if you have a good service dept nearby. If the local dealer sucks, get something else. So far I haven't had any mechanical issues with mine.

If you were talking about older VW's (< 1997) , i'd agree with you.

He's buying a *NEW* VW, which are not bothered by the electrical problems of the past. Kthxbye, dipshit.

rofl talk about dipshit.
new doesn't mean it's not plagued. They're on the bottom for a reason dumbass

I've owned a '95 GTI VR6 and currently own a '00 Passat V6. Both were(are) excellent cars. Very comfortable. Top notch interior quality. Road manners are superb. Seat positioning is great - don't sit too high, don't sit too low. Road noise is very low. Just all around has a lot of attention to detail.

I basically got an A4, but with only more space, and better features(minus Quattro) for about 2/3 the price. I'd buy one again...except Subaru is just too inticing with their new hopped up version of the legacys soon to be released.
