anyone own or have laid on a mattress from Ikea?

they freaking suck. I hate that crap.

I have some high quality asian mattress right now and it owns. I tried lying down ont hose Ikea mattresses, and they just plain suck. Your back will hurt. I suggest getting something else. Ikea beds are ok. I have one, but mattress is far more important. Do not compromise for cheap mattresses

Ikea is low priced, poorly manufactured, hipster garbage.

If you want to look good and be uncomfortable, by all means buy Ikea.

Very much depends on the individual item...Ikea does have some gems among all the garbage.

That said, Ikea's mattresses are mostly crap. And the ones that aren't crap are no cheaper than the ones you can get at any local furniture store.

ok thanks so much for saving me lots of gas and time... never been to ikea but saw on the website that it is cheappp

Ethan Allen FTW? I don't remember what kinda mattress I have, I have to find out when I get home. I like the firm stuff. The foam stuff is weird.

True, I should have said that the Ikea furniture is garbage. Their other random items like contemporary light fixtures are decent. Though you can still get vastly superior product at nominally higher costs.

There is nothing wrong with most of what they sell, considering the price of course. However, I certainly would not buy a mattress from them. That's one thing where it pays to spend a little extra for quality.

OTOH, spec out a kitchen using the correct measurements and you can get a custom looking kitchen for 3-4K from Ikea. Sure, it won't have the longevity of custom wood cabinets but it wont cost 20K -30K either.

They're cheap because of flat-packing, self-assembly, and volume.

You can see how two of those wouldn't apply to a mattress 🙂

So they've gotta cut corners somewhere else to get it to that lower price...

I've had great luck with their tables. Their cabinets/bookshelves are decent if you're looking for something utilitarian/minimalist and want to save money...I imagine it's very hard to mess up when designing something that is all right angles.

I've tried their mattresses, chairs, and sofas in-store and can't imagine being comfortable owning one...especially the sofas

It looks like the pattern is that, in general, I wouldn't get something that I have to constantly touch...or that has to support the majority of a real human's weight at any point

LOL. Despite all of the naysayers, I'm going to go ahead and tell you otherwise.

I bought an IKEA full-size mattress 8 years ago, just before my 2nd year in college (college student budget = cheap mattress). I've had it ever since, and it's held up great, even with my gf (now wife) moving in 4 years ago 😛 The mattresses are firm, so if you like soft, don't bother going, but I like firm mattresses (better for my back). Would I buy another one? If I had the budget, I'd definitely go higher quality. But on a budget, my IKEA mattress has stood the test of time.

I have a Spinal Comfort Capri.
400 bucks for a Full, with boxspring.
VERY nice. That will probably be the only large item I keep when I move.

I had an ikea matress and furniture in college. They held up just fine and I put foam pad on top of my bed and it was very comfortable. But I wouldn't buy IKEA furniture as a long term thing.

I bought an Ikea matress, the highest end one they had, for my mom about 10 years ago.

Super comfortable. For 2 years. Then it started collapsing (getting that dent from sleeping in the same spot), even though we flipped and rotated that thing every month.

Waste of money if you want something long term.

I think Ikea has some decent stuff if you look only at the smaller items and pieces of furniture. Once you start to look at 'big stuff' like couches, recliners, and beds, they are nothing but over-priced crap. I laid down on a few Ikea mattresses and was totally underwhelmed.

Find a friend with a Costco membership - or get one yourself - and check out what they have to offer.

Sam's Club mattress  You can get a nice full sized Serta set for about $400.

I have to say I like Ikea furniture though, sure they only last a couple years but since I usually move before then it doesn't make a difference, and there aren't any other options if I want modern looking furniture. I've been doing a lot of furniture shopping the past month but if you want modern looking furniture it comes down to either Ikea or imported (at 10x the price)

Their large furniture quality is underwelming, IMHO. It makes sense, though. It's completely out of their business plan.
