Was looking at the 2012/2013 models, like the spacious interior, est. 27/36 mpg city/hwy, standard awd-cvt-boxer engine, hatchback design, back seats fold flat, seems to handle well. For about $20k, this car should do well in bad weather.

Didn't like the handling of the crosstrek model and now there coming out with a hybrid version.

Just wondering if anyone owns one of these. Thanks.

I like it except for the CVT. 5MT for me please.

For reference my wife has an '05 WRX and I had an '05 LegacyGT. Somewhere in between we also had a '02 WRX for a while.

I have a 2010 (last gen) Impreza 2.5i 5MT and its been great for me. It was my first car and got it spanking brand new. On the highway I get better mpg than what the sticker says, but recently I have been getting some bad average mpg because of the cold I think. But don't get a CVT they are awful. Get the 5MT.

Have an 07 impreza 5MT. Great car, handles well. Little tiny in the rear seat area, but that's the nature of the beast.

I was looking at the '14 Forester XT, but didn't pull the trigger. I would go with the Crosstrek in a heart beat if it weren't for the weakass engine under the hood.

does 5MT mean manual transmission, is so, really prefer an automatic, i'm terrible at driving a stick. went to check out the Impreza today, the salesman at the dealership was wearing jeans, sneakers and a backwards baseball cap, wasn't even sure if he worked there until he hands me his business card.. he didn't even try to pressure me into buying it or offer a test drive.

every question i asked, the reply back was "oh yea, doood, this car is super cool", he seemed like he was high on the special sauce.

I test drove a 2012 Limited -

Very roomy, AWD, and roof rack mounts were the pluses over other hatches in the segment. Elantra GT, Focus, Mazda 3

Negatives:

AWD and 140HP = Slow
CVT
Interior is not up to par with segment leaders
Technology poor

I got a Titanium Focus for about $3K under what a Limited Impreza was selling for so was happy with giving up a little bit of interior room for more HP, better steering & handling, 6spd DCT, better interior, and more technology.

I have a 2006 Forester, so a bit of a different (and much older) beast. That being said, I agree with some of what is being said here and disagree with some of it... I hate my current transmission (it isn't the CVT), and liked the CVT the few times I've driven an Outback with one. The transmission before the CVT was/is prone to shifting at all of the wrong times. I also find the 170 horsepower in the Forester to be painfully insufficient. While I suspect the Impreza, a much smaller and newer car, won't suffer as much, I personally would still want more than 140.
