I'm considering one. I guess woot.com sells these quite often, the last one at about $100 a piece.

Any good?

My parents had one and the main problem they had was that it would leave blackmarks on walls and such.

I've got a roomba, and it's very much meh. You really have to have a high appreciation for the technology put in it, because as a vacuum cleaner, it's terrible.

It takes so much time to "roomba-proof" a room before you can even run it - block off the exits, pick up all cords, block off anything it can wedge into & get stuck on (bottoms of couches, chairs, end-tables, etc.

When it's all said & done, it's just far easier to pull out the big vacuum.

my parents have a roomba discovery. it actually cleans our basement (and we have a big/wide basement too) and returns to its docking station when its done cleaning.

its also quite useful since our dog is in the house a lot and he sheds a lot of hair. we just turn on the roomba and all the hairs are gone!

I would love to have a basement.

My mom is ill with emphysema and is on oxygen most of the day. It takes a lot out of her to push a heavy vacuum, so I sent her a Roomba Discovery that I got off woot for $155 shipped.

It is a Godsend to her. It does NOT replace a normal vacuum altogether. I dont think it was made to. But she has a dog and it sheds and this is great for her to run over the floors on a daily basis, so she only need use her regular vacuum once a week.

If you have hardwood floors, a shedding animal, and a physical condition that prevents you from vacuuming yourself, then it might be worth it. Otherwise, it's not worth the money. It does a poor job on carpet, except perhaps for any surface crumbs. It is nice to keep up with shedding dogs; but an hour or so later, I find that it missed a lot and is off somewhere, lost and/or stuck.

I got too many wires to even contemplate Roomba. And I like my wires all over the place, not into this hiding wire business.
