I have their 50" DLP and love it. The 50" DLP is very highly regarded among videophiles for being one of the best DLPs there is.

The model you linked to is an LCD, though. Their LCD sets have LC in the model number. Last I heard they were stopping production on the 50" and making a 60" or 62" set. Sams was carrying the 50" version last I heard, and Tweeter was selling them at some point as well.

Does anyone have any opinions on large Panasonic DLPs or this specific model?
Any reason to not buy it at $2100?

That set is an LCD RPTV, not DLP. Best thing you can do is try to find a store that has a selection of them to compare. I just bought the Toshiba 62HM95 this weekend and so far I am loving it.

Whoops.

Yeah, I'm just being cheap and trying to find the best deal. I have a 26" LCD I bought about 6 months ago, and it's feeling too small.

There's a slim chance the DLP version might be cheap at a Sams near you. I don't think they carry it anymore so there might be one or two remaining models on clearance perhaps.

Which is better? DLP or LCD? Is DLP better with deep blacks? How about contrast? Picture quality?

I prefer DLP, but you should check with your own eyes. If you think LCD is better, by all means get an LCD. You're the one that is going to be watching it. No point in getting something because it's highly regarded by others if you think a different set looks better.

I have the 60" version of this TV . Purchased it about 6 months ago when Costco was having a sale on it for $2500 with stand. I like it, although I think the newest generation DLP's with the 1080p are better. My friend has a 60" Samsung DLP with 1080p, and the picture, IMHO, is noticably better. I notice on very fast moving scenes that I get pixelation with the LCD, which you'll never get with a DLP.
