Just got the Ulimate Field watch with the SS band. This watch looks great and fully visible in the dark without charging for 25 years! Wish Id have had it years ago. They supposedly make the watches for the Navy Seals and now the Air Force.

The Luminoxes are nice watches. I don't know whether there is any truth to the USAF connection (as far as I know AF pilots are not issued watches, though Luminox claims that they have received enthusiastic letters from F-117 pilots), but I think they are issued to SEALs.

I recently looked at the Luminoxes before settling on my beastly Seiko SKX779K. It does not have permanent luminosity like the Luminoxes, but it has Seiko's brightest luminescent paint, Lumi-Brite, and it is so bright that it lights up when I am walking through a shaded part of my office. It looks like a Timex Indiglo, permanently turned on. Here is a pic of one in twilight.

I bought one. Gave it to my dad (Commercial Fisherman) when I got my Citizen Hyper Aqualand Dive Watch.

He broke it the first night out. The case got caught on a net busted. Still works, but has to sit glued to the "dashboard' of the boat. It was the Navy Seal issue one (Got it in Guam from a "friend" on the "other side" of the island. Strange group, those guys...)

I had it for about a year. Dang thing kept me up a night. I had to set it face down on the night stand before going to sleep.

Air Force has no specific issue watches. Most of the pilots I know go for the bling....Breitling Navigator of something like that. Get the high 5 figure bonus and stop by the watch shop on the way back from the 'vette dealer.

Don-

Very nice! I have several Seikos and Citizen dive watches (prefer the Ctizen but thats only personal choice) and bought the Luminox for every day use. Agree with you on the AF not issueing watches (at least I never got one) and on the SEALS version also but who cares. I love this watch, rugged, a mans watch, easy to read, basic, heavy but suprisingly comfortable to wear. Dont like the feel of titanium, too much like plastic. Wonderful in the dark, so bright it could keep you awake. :)

SgtBuddy-

Just read your post and LOL. Yeah, can keep you awake!!! :)

Have a Breitling Dive watch also (SuperOcean) and this one looks soooo similar for a lot less although the B is a mechanical movement and chrome polish bright while this one is brushed SS and quartz. Will still feel just as bad if I scratch either though.

Hmm . . . I just found this page - apparently this Stocker & Yale Sandy is the watch actually issued to SEALs and others, and the Luminox is made under license from S&L. I would actually consider bidding on this watch, though I have no idea what the reserve is.
