I have the opportunity to buy a hotdog stand at a pretty good price but want to know what I can expect or might expect in terms of income.

It's at a good location (home improvement). If you own one and don't mind giving me info I would greatly appreciate it.

I would like to know what the actual take home pay is, what the lowest amount might be.

Thanks

OK well if it's an existing business then it should have a an established set of books and that would tell you how profitable it is right? If you can't figure it out, go to an accountant.

It's not my business so I don't have access to the books. Also the past year was abnormal because they did very little in terms of promotions and the like.

If they don't let you look at the books or audited financial statements for the last 3 years (at least)........ forget them.

Its doubful looking at the books would be very helpful for this type of business. Its all cash, and the person running this type of business isn't likely to claim all the money that gets taken in.

Most would have the books showing a modest profit, and putting the rest of the cash in their pocket.

Its not legal, but understandable. Not many enjoy paying taxes.

There's a guy with a hot dog stand outside my local home depot, and as far as I can tell he makes a killing.

You should be able to do the math. I don't know if he pays rent or not, but assuming he DOESN'T, then his operating expenses are basically cart maintenance, ice, and propane. All of which should be like $10-15 a day. Then he sells $0.25 hot dogs for $2.00 apiece, all day long.

If he sells 100 hot dogs, he should be clearing $100 profit even if he pays somebody $10 an hour to sell them. (for instance, a hot "assistant" in a nice tight shirt)

I read Fast Food Nation and one of the guys who started a major chain in the US, forget the name because I wasn't familiar with it, started with a hot dog stand and soon bought a few out. That was back in the day, but I imagine that people like hot dogs as much now:)

carl karcher of carl's jr

it sounds like an interesting idea, but there goes your weekends! good hotdogs are hard to find these days. costco, sam's club, and der wienerschitzel seem to have a corner on the market
