How quiet are these things? With the rebate/deal/couponfests going on around my house, I cab nab a baseline one and jack it up myself afterwards.

Pivotal question - They're small ... but are they quiet?

I can tell you that I have a 4600 - and its dead quiet. That's one of the few great things about the Dell's.

It has a passive HSF.

I worked on one for a while and it was really quiet. The CD burner, however, was pretty loud but not any more so than any other laptop burner.
 
Incredibly quiet. I wish someone would bench one of these against a custom built pc using mid -high quality components (Asus board, decent memory, fast hard drive, etc)

Even if it is slightly slower, I gladly accept the difference because the lack of annoying fan and other noise more than makes up for it.
