What they look like

I've been doing some research on trucks lately, as I need something to haul around my bike and move stuff from time to time. But I don't need a giant V8 really.
I thought the new Colorado Sport looks pretty nice, especially considering the price and my GM Earnings on top of that.

What other brands should I be looking at, as far as compact/mid-size trucks go? In my opinion, the Asian trucks just don't have the looks down yet, even though their drivetrains might be slightly better.

" wouldn't buy a pickup with less than 6 cylinders, but that's just me. "

Even when the 5 makes more power than the 6 it replaces?

I think the regular cab looks the sportiest, but I'd get a lot more utility out of the extended. Crew is too big, I think.

Is that right? I might have to look into that.

Married. No kids yet though. ;)
I figured this would be mine, and she can have the Acura IF we ever have kids.

Sounds like a plan, I have a standard cab truck, wife & 2 kids. It works out well, If I'm @ home, I can get both kids in the truck & if wife's home, her car is too & we pile into her 4 door.

I have an Extang soft tonneau cover & it works well for keeping groceries covered up & if I haul something big, I unsnap the cover on 3 sides & roll it up towards the cab.

I really like the Line X bedliner too, I've hauled tons & tons of rocks & blocks & it still looks great. Had a guy just scrape the heck out of it with a forklift, & thought I might collect on the lifetime warranty, but I hosed it off & it still looks great.

Which trim level & engine?

I've always been under the impression, over the past decade or so from other people, that regular cab trucks would be going out of style due to limited utility(interior cargo). But it seems like lots of people just don't think that way, eh? It sounds like you make out just fine with the regular cab, which I also think looks a LOT better most of the time anyways when compared to ext or crews.
I'd definately get a soft tonneau as well, perfect solution for more dry cargo space.

I was thinking the ZQ8 LS package. Sport suspension, bigger wheels, kind of a sport truck. With the I5 and 5 speed.

Too bad GM chickened out and didn't keep the turbo'd I5 that put out something like 300HP and similar torque that they were toying around with in prototypes. :(

I like everything about the Chevy Colorado Sport except for the styling of the front headlamps. When i look at it from the front, and then look to the side, I am expecting a more 'meaty truck'.. meaning that the front is too big for the rest of it... because of the headlamps.. (too big)

Interior is nice though :)

Another plus is that the aftermarket usually jumps on board with Chevrolet accessories quickly, you should be able to tinker with it quite a bit.

The bed extender option seems pretty handy, have been looking @ them, mostly because it's be nice to have it flipped forward when I'm hauling groceries & a cantalope rools towards the cab under the tonneau cover & I have to crawl up & get it. (guess I could just cut a board & put it behind the fenderwells too)

Trim package looks great. Only thing I might suggest is that if you have children in the future, if you haul them around @ all, it's nice to have an automatic so you can reach over & hand them back their bottle, smack them upside the head etc... (mine are older, so they do without the help now, so I got a manual, plus I want my daughters to know how to drive a MT & intimidate boys with their driving skilz. the 11 year old already has the shift pattern down & shifts it for me, I just run the clutch when she's riding with me:D)

What kind of bike do you have Red?

I like the looks of the crew cab. Is the I5 the only engine available on it or can you get the 6? I guess I could look it up. :D

edit: The commercial where the guy is singing that Shania Twain song cracks me up.

Ya, that's one really nice thing about the domestics, as far as aftermarket goes. All kinds of hard and soft tonneaus, engine add-ons, cosmetic stuff.
I am a little concerned with the lack of 4x4 in the sport trim level, as I could really use it up here.
I don't suppose you drive in too much snow down in Texas, eh? I haven't used a truck for a full season of winter up here, so I'm not sure how we'd make out when we really get dumped on. I suppose a whole lotta sandbags would be needed. :)
Of all the vehicles I've owned and driven, I've only driven 2 autos in my life, so I don't know if I'd want to add to my bill with an unnecessary option. Kinda looking for a sporty looking "stripper". A truck that is. :)
This is what I gotta haul sometimes. So that bed extender would surely be handy too!
It's nice talking to someone who owns, and can speak from experience. Thanks!

I'll be looking at this truck or a Dakota in the near future too. I have a Trailbazer with the 6 cyl. version of this engine and it runs flawlessly.

I grew up in North & South Dakota, & pickups were as important as central heat in the wintertime...

I got a stripper Ford, just because of the price, $12.8K out the door & have used the crap out of it for the last year.

I'd consider the locking differential since you're going to be driving in the snow, and maybe a tailgate protector like I put on my Ford, I remember loading one of my street bikes in a brand new Ranger & bending the crap out of the inner tailgate panel with the rear wheel here's one of the tailgate protectors, but IIRC, it was only ~$50 for the one I bought: tailgate protector

Throw a couple of bags of construction sand in the bed behind the wheel wells & you're set for the winter. I remember a friend put chains on during blizzards & we'd go joy-riding, it was a real blast. I had a Jeep, but it wasn't very warm for those kind of outings.

I would wait for the frontier simply because of this:
"The Frontier, like Titan, is also expected to provide exceptional acceleration, towing capacity and all-around off-roading ability, due in large measure to its powerful new engine ? a 4.0-liter DOHC V6 producing 250-plus horsepower and 270-plus lb-ft of torque (final figures will be announced closer to production). These figures represent increases of 70 horsepower and 68 lb-ft of torque over those of the current normally aspirated 3.3-liter V6-equipped Frontier.
The new 4.0-liter V6, based on the award-winning Nissan VQ engine series used in the 350Z, Maxima, Altima, Murano and Quest, is specifically tuned for the unique demands of truck use, while at the same time offering excellent fuel efficiency and smooth operation."

The 3 and 3.5 L versions of this engine have been on Ward's 10 best engines since they came out on 1995 Maxima. I have a good feeling about the 4 L version :D
